Many employers were on hand to meet with VSC students that have the potential to work for employers or learn about career paths, they may not have considered until now. The VSC Job and Career Fair was well attended and a real home run of organizational acumen by CTE Advisor Sam Powers. Much appreciated local businesses that supported VSC with donations were: The Coffee Bean and Tea Leaf, Gelson’s Supermarket and Venice Cold Brew The third annual Venice Skills Center Job and Career Fair drew a crowd of over 250 students and members of the community to meet with participating local and national companies and employment organizations. Thirteen vendors participated in the event including Wells Fargo, American Red Cross, Bankwork$, Sage Global, US Army, Navy, Jewish Vocational Services and many others. Channon Kelly, the recruiting specialist from Wells Fargo Bank commented, "I heard from our rep last year that this event was really well attended and successful so we knew we wanted to be here this year." Ten VSC student council members volunteered at the event and assisted with every aspect of event organization and execution--greeting guests, distributing brochures, organizing the food and refreshments, photographing the event, setting up tables for vendors and parking. The VSC office staff including Kathy Kaba, Karen Argumedo, Dalya Willingham, Michelle Broughton and Laura Masuda also worked hard to make the event a success and run smoothly. DID YOU MATCH THE PET WITH THE OWNER? Remember back to last weeks bulletin featuring VSC staff members and their pets? There was a most correct guess submitted. Actually, there were two. That’s right, it was a tie. Go figure. Alice Chan and Darla Hederer both guessed 6 out of 12 possible pet with owner options. Congratulations. Both will have their choice of $10.00 gift cards to Petco or Trader Joes. Read the VSC bulletin to find out what’s next.
