The possibility of operating the MOSE
System to increase water renewal in critical
areas is object of investigations.
Present results obtained through the trophic
model suggest that significant increase in
water renewal and hence in oxygenation
of water column may be obtained
especially in the areas close to the sub-
basins borders.

Climate Change adaptation
General Plan of complementary adaptive measures to climate change
for Venice
Adaptive management shall try
to maintain current functions of
the Venice system, including
those related to living and
working opportunities.
A shared vision must be
therefore defined. To realize the
new vision, innovative and
shared project modalities are
needed, in particular to reduce
decision timing, conflicts and
oppositions.
In this perspective, climate
change challenges represent an
opportunity for the Venice
system.
• Venice protected from the negative effects of climate change; • Improvement in the quality of the environment (water, sediments, etc.);• Increase in the biodiversity of the ecosystem;• Development of a system of multi-disciplinary knowledge and expertise;• Venice has become a reference for other countries facing sea level rise
Results achievedA general improvement in the lagoon ecosystem
Management and Control

Start up of management procedures
Innovation and the Venice lagoonSafeguarding Venice. A wordwide reference
Special expertise in:
• Climate change and sea level rise adaptation measures;
• Coastal zones management and improvement of territory resilience;
• Balance in between natural and anthropic environment.
Multidisciplinary action:
Maritime, hydraulic and environmental engineering, construction management,
legal and administrative management, environmental sciences.
In such a context innovation plays a central role to provide new solutions to old
problems and to rethink existing instruments to face new challenges.
