Working as PLANT OPERATOR - PROCESS (DCS)

From JUNE 2008 to MAY 2010

Kothari petrochemical is a downstream industry of Chennai Petroleum Corporation limited (CPCL) supplying

C3 to C5 hydro carbon feed stock for the manufacturing of poly Isobutylene (PIB). This PIB unit at Chennai is

established in March 1990 with technology transfer from cosden technology, USA. The cosden polybutylene in

process is a liquid phase, fluidized bed polymerization of iso butylene contained in a butane butene stream. Raw

material sourcing from CPCL and Reliance industry, Mumbai. This unit has a capacity of 10,000 MT/annum for

PIB.

OVERALL RESPONSIBILITIES:

Periodical monitoring of plant equipment’s through DCS and if any abnormality immediately

attending the same and reporting to higher authorities.

Preparing batch with given RFC from laboratory.

Allocation of blending & holding tanks.

Updating the all batch documents and filling documents on SAP.

Responsible for unloading of base oil from ship.

Communicate with ship chief about the discharge reading up to end of the shipment quantity.

Pigging the ship unloading line after the discharge.

Making the product receiving calculation to ensure the shipment quantity.

Checking the lineup for product transfer.

Coordinate with project engineer to constitution of new equipment.

Making the work order for the bulk loading of lubricants.

Storage gauging for ullage calculation for ship discharge of base oils.

Regular monitoring of Plant process parameters in field and logging readings.

Conditioning monitoring of all rotary equipment’s respectively all equipment, instrument defects and

leads immediately to shift in charge and taking possible corrective actions.

Handing over of equipment for maintenance on inspection and check the equipment for its correct

operation when maintenance job is completed.

Co-ordinate with other departments for the smooth running of the plant without any equipment

down time.

Collaborate with other operators to solve unit problems.

Ensure availability of production and safety critical device.

Ensure that contractor employees are following the PTW system & safety procedures.

Review and discuss all completed and ongoing tasks and permits during shift handovers.

Maintain clean concise logs of all relevant events to ensure that succeeding operators are fully aware of

plant status at shift handover.

Logging routine checklists and plant reading.

Performing relevant housekeeping in assigned area of job.

Combined work with Start-up and Shutdown activities, ensuring adherence to the procedures.

Trouble shoots operational problems and continuously monitors plant performance & quality

through Management Information Systems (MIS).
