Objective : To introduce students to the WH-questions.

Learning outcomes : By the end of the lesson, students should be able to:

1. Be familiar with five of the eight WH-questions which are who, why, when, which and

what.

2. Analyze and know about the usage of WH-questions.

3. Produce correct questions using WH-questions.

Moral Values : Cooperation

Educational Emphasis:

1.1 The students need to analyse the correct use of WH-questions.

2. Multiple Intelligences (MI):

2.1 Verbal linguistic – making use of language to convey their message to peers and teacher.

2.2 Interpersonal – interacting with their peers and teacher in order to get information.

Instructional Aids :

1. Microsoft PowerPoint Slideshow

2. Envelope containing the stripes of paper.

3. Box containing pictures.

4. Whiteboard and marker

Previous Knowledge :

1. The students have learnt about how to introduce themselves, talk about their interest

and hobbies (Topic 1 in text book).

Teaching Procedure :

Stage Instructional Activity Learning Activity

Set Induction (3 minutes)1. Teacher greets the

students.2. Teacher asks questions

using WH-questions to the students. For example:

a) What did you do?b) Which place did

you go?c) Who did you go

with?

3. Teacher tells the students that they are going to learn WH-Questions.

1. Students respond to teacher’s greeting.

2. Students respond to teacher’s questions.

3. Students listen to the teacher attentively.

Development (5 minutes) Activity 11. Teacher explains about

a stripe of paper that has a statement written on it.

5. Teacher asks the students to create questions based on the statement by using the WH-questions.

Activity 2 (Guessing Game)1. Teacher asks students to

remain in their group.2. Teacher explains the rules

of the activity.-This game will be played in 4 rounds. In each round, a representative of a group will come in front and pick a picture from a box. The rest of the class will work in a group and construct WH-questions to gain information about the picture picked by the representative earlier. The representative will answer the questions without giving out the name of the object in the picture. Groups that can answer guess the object in the picture will get 1 mark, a wrong guess will cause the team to lose ½ mark.

3. Teacher will be the referee of the game and write down the marks on the whiteboard.

Activity 21. Students remain in

their respective group.2. Each group will

choose their representative to come in front.

3. Each group form the sentences based on their understanding of WH-questions.

4. Each group will guess the object in the picture.

Conclusion (2 minutes)1. Teacher recaps about the

lessons.

2. Teacher emphasizes the importance of using correct WH-questions.

1. Students are asked to prepare a 100 words long essay that describe about their best friend answering these questions:

a. Who is your best friend’s name?b. When did the two of you meet and become friends?
