Q1/2020 online activity has increased than previous quarter as well as adjacent quarter of Q1/2019. All Divisions, except VATWA, which is still searching for suitable members for key staff positions, have a full staff board. All Divisions operate normally. This quarter has been the most active we have seen up to date. There is an increase on new members sign up in relation with Q1/2019 and Q4/2019. Huge increase of intercontinental flights, especially the last weeks of Q1/2020 across the Region. New controllers graduate and make their appearance, staffing airports at various positions according their rating. VATKOR and VATPRC is recruiting additional Instructors due high levels of candidates. ATC training programs and sessions run smoothly and at a steady pace. VATWA is working on updating atc sector files and looking for additional assistance from members. This is estimated to take a while. At this stage, it is worth mentioning that local communities of Indonesia, Malaysia, Philippines, Singapore, VCL, Hong Kong have expanded at a great extent. This is to congratulate all members and staff for their continuous effort, time and support. VATJPN, VATSEA, VATPRC, VATKOR have increased ATC training sessions as well as beginners events due high number of students joining. VATJPN has introduced 3 beginners’ events this quarter, along with another 6 events in collaboration with VATKOR and VATSEA. Events take place regularly, in collaboration with neighboring Divisions in Asia. VATKOR, VATSEA, VATROC, VATJPN and VATPRC starring with massive traffic almost every week, with a variety of city link, regular domestic and international events/routes. Next Light up VATSEA mega event, as well as more events are planned for Q2/2020. The Specialists of ATC project is established and is currently active with success at VATWA and Mongolia FIR of VATPRC, providing ATC services and giving life to FIRs with low activity. Currently there are over 30 controllers participating in the project. We are looking forward to establish the teams ATC presence and enhance operations with other Divisions/FIRs in Asia. Primarily we focus on Iron Mic awards and boosting ATC activity to isolated FIRs or places with low traffic. Discussions are held on the first events organized by the team. A new Flight Service Station (PRC_FSS) is established in VATPRC providing coverage for all FIRs of the Division. The new ATC academy of VATPRC is under development and expected to be launched within the next quarters. There has been a malfunction of the HQ hosted by VATME for VATSEA & VATWA, resulting into loss of some data, while other data were recovered. Local teams are checking the issue. There is a recruitment at VATSEA regarding ASEA_FSS manager. We have posted latest FSS stations updates in the Servinfo/Vatspy VATSIM forum thread for the clients to display correctly the FSS stations of Asia.

VATSEA Q2 2020 Division Report 1ST QUARTER 2020 Division Overview

Q1 2020 was slow however more events have been taking place as a result of more online activity. We expect Q2 2020 to have increased traffic in VATSEA. A number of

events have been planned for Q2 2020 and we’re enthusiastic to see the division grow further as more members stay home giving us online activity during this period.

The HQ system hosted by VATME had a failure leading to loss of data on 4 March 2020. A backup was uploaded to the system however it dated 19 September 2019 leading

to complications with some vACCs relying on the system for all their essential needs to run.

    VATSEA Quarterly Report

    vACC reports

    Hong Kong vACC

    Overall

Overall the VACC experiences a strong growth this quarter due to more members spending time at home. We have received an increased number of applications for both

local ATC and visiting ATC, and thanks to our mentors who are also spending more time at home, the training team is able to handle the increased demand in a timely manner.

In addition, with more time spent on the network, our controllers were able to win two Iron Mic awards during Week 8 of 2020.

In mid-March, HQ experienced a catastrophic failure which led to a loss of 6-month worth of data. The management team came up with a contingency plan trying to localize

critical data storage and online service as much as possible. Bailey played an important role to speed up the development of Moodle and Helpdesk.

Kai Ko and the team managed to organize two events in March which were well received by our members. Details are in the Events section. With the current health crisis,

our team has to halt all planning of physical meet-ups in the real world. There have been talks of partnership with local institutions and organizations in the background so

when the health crisis is over, the VACC will be ready to resume physical meet- ups again to promote our organization and broaden our audience.

    DIVISION SUMMARY Q1 2020

First off, We would like to thank everyone for their efforts and time dedication towards not only the West Asia community but the wider VATSIM

Community as well during this present and unprecedented time.

The Quarter has been rather busy. The division has seen an increase in aircraft movements throughout the region with flights mainly transitioning through the

airspace on mid to long-haul flights but also an increase in flights between VNKT - Kathmandu and VQPR - Paro. Members from both India vACC and

Pakistan vACC have regularly organized group flights around the region. There also has been an increase of new members wanting to be a part of the West

Asia community and also a lot of members wanting to participate and join on the discord server for group flights held amongst the peers. We’ve even seen a slight increase of members returning to the Network after a time of absence.

At the beginning of March Division Director, Raihan Shahzad took a Leave of Absence for a duration of 1 month. Deputy Division Director, Brodie Murdoch

acted on behalf of Raihan and the Division throughout the leave of absence with support from the Regional Director Anastasios Stefopoulos.

On 26th February 2020. VATSIM’s Asia Region announced a newly developing project, The Specialist of ATC Project. The project is designed to encourage and promote areas around the region where ATC Services are unlikely to be seen and to help the development of areas which are not yet developed

or on-going. West Asia was delighted to be part of the Project and currently has Bhutan, India, Maldives, Nepal and Sri Lanka as approved areas for the

    project.

With the new year steaming ahead we do thank all members local and forigen of West Asia for being apart of an amazing community. We are in the stage of

re-development especially of the operations side of things and we hope that this change and amendments present and future will create a greater demand of

activity but also enjoyment amongst all peers within West Asia.

    Audio for VATSIM

Audio for VATSIM was established in Mid October 2019. Over the recent months we have had some issues with the transceivers in remote oceanic areas

such as the Indian Ocean, Bay of Bengal and Arabian Sea. The operations team are exploring options to reduce radio interference and possibly introducing

HF to these remote areas. The operations team are also preparing to start work on new transceivers to reflect terrain interference for future usage of Audio for

    VATSIM.

    Long-Term Operations Redevelopment

The Operations Team have established a Long-Term Operations Redevelopment for West Asia. This is a lengthy process where we update and develop sector

files and Airspace Operational Material for all vACC’s including the Not Established vACCs. Due to the lengthy process of this project completion date is unknown at this time.

    HQ System

During the recent VATSIM Infrastructure Migration at the start of March the HQ System and some vital data was lost including staff changes, vACC

transfers and roster approvals. HQ was restored to its previous backup which was September 2019. Over the month of March the Division and vACCs

have been working to restore the data from the last 6 months and its currently still an on-going process.
