WABA KAY DOR MEIN – IN THE TIME OF THE PANDEMIC Surviving and Reflecting during a Global Crisis

Vasl Artists’ Association is announcing a three-month long writers’ mentorship program. The final product will be a fiction anthology to publish the short stories of writers selected for the program.

This is an OPEN CALL FOR SUBMISSION FOR PITCHING YOUR STORY.

The theme of the publication is the Covid-19 pandemic. Pitches could span the lockdown, the disease, distancing protocols, changed lifestyles, forced decisions or any other topic of related interests. Writers can engage with the theme directly or indirectly.

If your pitch is selected, you will develop your proposal into a 5000-word story during a 3-month mentorship program. An honorarium will be given to all selected writers.

The short stories can be written in English or Urdu.

Vasl will translate the Urdu stories into English for the anthology.

SUBMITTING A PITCH/ STORY PROPOSAL:

In the pitch, we expect:

1) A single typed page pitch, which should include: (500 words)a. Your personal and professional introductionb. The idea and plot of your storyc. Your inspiration/ interest in writing the story

2) A one-page writing sample. The writing sample does not need to contain a full story - it can be the first page (or 500 words) of any other fiction you have written.

3) The filled out application form.

We accept both, email as well as postal submissions. All three requirements (the pitch, the writing sample and the application form) have to be submitted in the same email/ postal package.

If any of the three are missing, the application will be rejected.
