Developing Story as a Method of Learning

Teaching method 1:

Students work together in small groups. Teacher provides a script framework for short films.

Using teacher's script students infuse their own creativity and imagination- such as genre, location, characters, situation, etc. to make teacher's words come alive in whatever story.

Developing a Story as a Method of Learning

Teaching method 2:

Students write their own story. Some storiescan be recorded with the camera so that students are given the chance to have their voices heard. The best stories are chosen to be filmed.

Video storytelling as a cross-curricular activity

•Filmmaking can be extended to enhance cross curricular teaching and learning.

•It can be integrated with the Music, Foreign language, Environmental protection, Geography, or History curriculum.

Short film example: A Day in the Life of a School Bag

Video Storytelling as lesson extension

•Another strategy is to focus on a specific topic or grammatical unit and use technology to support instructional events within that unit.

Example 1: Tenses

Short film example: The Story of Change

Students work in small groups. They imagine they are an item, something that is now old and forgotten, but used to be very important in a kid’s life. They tell their story using the following tense guide:•Early life: past simple•Experiences: present perfect•What will happen next : the future with will
