Choreographed by Michelle Olson and Starr Muranko A mixed program of contemporary Indigenous dance…two visionary choreographers bring their diverse voices to the act of connection. Moving from Spirit to form through currents of spatial tension, these are the songs of the land and body, deeply rooted and ever reaching.

Sujit Vaidya – OFF CENTRE Choreographed by Sujit Vaidya with musical accompaniment by Curtis AndrewsThe work was conceived as part of the 12MM series with support from The Dance Centre, and is an exploration of existential dualities/multiplicities, that create realms of “reality” that can be in conflict or find ways to co exist. The work uses bharatanatyam as language of expression.

MOVETHECOMPANY works by Josh BeamishLone Wolf Choreographed by Noam Gagnon, Ame Henderson and Josh Beamish. This series of solos explores facets of Beamish’s persona, both public and private, superimposing creative perspectives.

Saudade Choreographed by Josh Beamish Saudade (Portuguese), a nostalgic yearning for an elusive past, was originally created for the BAM Next Wave Festival. Six male dancers merge balletic poise with street-style body isolation, conjuring hollow intimacies in a series of ghostly solos, pas de deux, and group passages, paying homage to the absence that keeps us longing.

GiselleChoreographed by Josh BeamishGrounding the Giselle narrative firmly in the device driven, pragmatic present, Beamish reimagines Giselle as an interplay of snapchat duets,

Les Productions Figlio – Cruel Tales | 3:15pm - 4pmJarislowsky Studio (Level 3) Written and Choreographed by Serge BennathanCruel Tales is a full-length dance piece which draws inspiration from the words of the passer-by who held Corporal Nathan Cirillo, who was shot at the War Memorial on Parliament Hill in 2014. Cruel Tales wishes to develop a reflection about love and death, and how these two crucial aspects of life have not the same relevance in our society with respect to the past. *Serge Bennathan will be replaced by Billy Marchenski in this showing.

Radical System Art – TelemetryChoreographed by Shay Kuebler Telemetry is formed through an interdisciplinary language of tap, live video and interactive technologies to delve into ideas on memory, history and the intangible information that we translate through our bodies. This highly physical language relays and connects to a network of live sound and live interactive video lighting.

Action at a Distance – Container Choreographed by Vanessa Goodman Container explores heritage, culture and resistance in the body.

Radical System Art – Epilogos Choreographed by Shay Kuebler

Epilogos is based around the “art of rhetoric” and the commodification of morality. Through the seven tenets of bushido, the work explores how those in power utilize the art of persuasion and our own morality to further gain power and control.

Action at a Distance – In Fiction Choreographed by Vanessa Goodman Blurring the lines between what is real and what is imagined, In Fiction is

Through integratingnarrative, movement, song, performance, and new multimedia design, Mînowin connects landscapes and Coastal form line with contemporary perspectives of customary Indigenous dance forms.

Jeanette Kotowich is a Vancouver based professional contemporary Aboriginal dance and performing artist. Vancouver has a dense, walkable downtown core which is quick to get around. If you are venturing beyond downtown, you may choose to use a taxi service or public transportation..

TAXISRide sharing services, such as Uber and Lyft, have not yet come to Vancouver, though the city and surrounding areas are well serviced by various taxi companies. Cabs can be called with company specific apps or by phone, and will accept cash, debit or credit payment.

PUBLIC TRANSPORTATION – BUS / SKYTRAIN / SEABUSVancouver’s public transportation system, Translink, is made up of a network of bus, train, and ferry lines. Tickets prices range from $2.95 - $5.70 depending how far you are traveling, and can be used across all transportation systems within a 90 minute window upon activation. Tickets can be purchased by cash or credit. AQUABUSAquabus is a small ferry company servicing eight docks along the north and south sides of False Creek. Ferries come every 15 minutes, and offer a fun way to cross the water while seeing the city from a different perspective. www.theaquabus.com

GETTING TO THE AIRPORTVancouver International Airport is serviced by a number of taxi companies and it is easy to grab a cab at the airport or flag one down in downtown Vancouver. Depending on traffic and direction, a taxi will cost $35 - $45 and should take about 25 minutes from downtown Vancouver.

Public transportation also offers easy access to and from the airport, as Skytrain - Canada Line directly connects you to downtown Vancouver. At the airport follow signs to Canada Line. If heading to the Rosedale on Robson, take the Canada Line to Yaletown-Roundhouse Station and then walk northbound along Mainland Street (which turns into Hamilton Street) for 8 minutes. The Rosedale on Robson will be on your right. The skytrain will cost $8.75 and should take about 25 minutes.
