4 Storage System Solutions
Controlled Atmosphere
Controlled Atmosphere (CA) is a storage technique
involving a reduction in the level of oxygen and
an increase in the level of CO2. The quality and
freshness of fruit and vegetables can be maintained
under CA conditions without the need for any
chemicals. Many products can be stored for two to
four times longer than usual under CA conditions.
Ultra Low Oxygen
Ideally, pears should be stored at 1-3% O2, most
apple cultivars at 1.5% or lower.
Storage under such O2 conditions is referred to as
Ultra Low Oxygen (ULO) storage. ULO storage is used
in gas-tight cold stores and is for the long-term
storage of apples, pears, blue berries, kiwis and
other fruit species.
Dynamic CA Storage
Van Amerongen’s Dynamic CA system adjusts
CA conditions interactively during the storage
period (instead of fi xing them). The equipment used
for the ‘Dynamic CA Storage System’responds to the
physiological condition of the fruit in the cold store
and automatically adjusts the storage conditions
accordingly (storage based on product response).
Oxygen levels of less than 1% can be achieved,
because the O2 concentration will be adjusted
immediately if they are in danger of becoming low.
Storing Fruit on Pallets
Each type of fruit requires a specifi c O2 and CO2
level for optimal storage. This sets high demands
for your technology. You certainly don’t want the
conditions on the pallet to be disturbed when
you disconnect the other pallets. Pallifl ex off ers
maximum fl exibility for distribution. This minimizes
product losses and allows you to capitalize fl exibly
on the market and maximize your margins.

The My Fruit storage system is the most modern and extensive operating system for conditioning cold stores, on the market! The touch panel shows a clear overview of your cold stores including their current temperature and gas values.

Fruit gecombineerd met Van Amerongen machinerie
in veel gevallen 20 – 50% energie bespaart is niet
zomaar een kreet, maar kunnen we ook aantonen.
My Fruit off ers a maximum of four measuring sys-
tems. A measuring system can control up to 100
Pallifl ex covers (PLF: see separate brochure), 40 cold
stores with a central system (CTR), 16 cold stores
with an Auto-ULOsystem(AUS) or 12 cold stores with
an interactive CA system (ACR).

Auto-ULO-Control (AUS)The Auto-ULO-Control (AUS) is mostly used for max.
16 rooms per measuring system and fi tted with
amaximum of one CO2 scrubber and one N2
generator. Rather than using measuring tubes, the
AUS samples directly from the PVC pipe in the CO2
scrubber. The scrubber can also be used to aerate
thecold stores,which eliminates aeration fans.
Options
1. Temperature control: the measurement and
registration of temperature and control of the
cooling system
2. Water management: control of the humidifi cation
units and measurement and registration of
moisture loss in the fruit, as well as relative
humidiy
My Fruit has diff erent user levels, including a
management level and a level for the fi eld of
work. An example of My Fruit user-friendliness
is the use of Products and Modes. A product is
for example ‘Gala’or ‘Conference’. The system
has the following modes:

measuring tubes to take gas samples. An APP|ell
system can control more than one scrubber and N2
generator.

My Fruit Dynamic, based on Advanced Control of Respiration technology (ACR), is the next
generation of low-oxygen CA storage. It controls and adjusts automatically the O2 levels in the
room. It is a system able to measure the respiration of all fruits stored – not just a selection of
fruits. Its capability to automatically control the atmosphere within the room, coupled with a
local expert on fruit physiology, sets it apart from all other existing low-oxygen control systems.

Mode of Function
By utilizing O2 and CO2 sensors, ACR measures
the changes in the Respiration Quotient (RQ, CO2
production/O2 uptake) of the entire room fruit load.
The innovative aspect of this technology consists
in the fact that My Fruit Dynamic represents a
complete picture of the room. It searches conti-
nuously for the lowest safe point of oxygen based
on the response from ALL the fruits stored. When
RQ values go up, the oxygen levels will be slightly
increased automatically to avoid fermentation of
the fruits.
Advantages- My Fruit Dynamic is capable of automatically
measuring the respiration rate of an entire room
fruit load and automatically adjusting O2 values at
levels safe for long-term storage.

Combination with Ethylene blockerMy Fruit Dynamic combines in many cases very well
with ethylene blocking chemicals. E.g. in situations
where:
- both scald and internal browning should be
avoided, like in certain pear varieties;
- shelf life benefi ts should be added;
- in cases of long transport times;
- when more fl exibility in harvest management
and room fi lling is needed.

APP|ell Control System
The APP|ell control system is designed for now and for the future. It focuses on user-friendliness and the
facilitation of remote service. APP|ell off ers optimum cooling system and CA control system integration.
The system is continuously updated with new applications, features and user-friendliness improvements.
APP|ell off ers a maximum of four measuring systems. A measuring system can control up to 100 Pallifl ex covers
(PLF: see separate brochure), 40 cold stores with a central system (CTR), 16 cold stores with an Auto-ULO-
system (AUS) or 12 cold stores with an interactive CA system (ACR). In the event of, for instance, 3 measuring
systems APP|ell can control 300 Pallifl ex units or 80 cold stores and 100 Pallifl ex units.
The Auto-ULO-Control (AUS) is mostly used for smal-
ler projects (< 800 ton) and fi tted with a maximum of
one CO2 scrubber and one N2 generator. Rather than
using measuring tubes, the AUS samples directly
from the PVC pipe in the CO2 scrubber. For smaller
projects, the scrubber can also be used to aerate the
cold stores, which eliminates aeration fans.
A Central Control System (CTR) is expandable. It uses
