Merry Glen’s Mission
The overall objective of Merry Glen is to
emphasize the positive aspects of individual
development, while remaining realistic about
limitations, to assist individuals in becoming
aware of their assets, and, most importantly,
the power of their assets.
Merry Glen Philosophy
We believe in a system that is designed and operated in ways that are
consistent with the principles of self-determination. This participant-
driven system assures that individuals have the freedom to plan their
own lives, authority to control the resources allocated to them to
acquire needed services and supports, opportunity to choose their own
supports, responsibility for their choices and the consequences of those
choices, and the reciprocal responsibility to participate and become
contributing members of the community. While these self-
determination principles serve as cornerstones of an effective system
serving and supporting individuals with developmental disabilities, there
are a number of other principles that guide our efforts. These
complimenting principles are: a commitment to community integration,
dignity, informed choice, rights and systems management.

choose to create?
Values to Ethics
• How we believe determines how we act
− Scarcity vs. Abundance
− A kind world or an unkind world
− Anything is possible or I could never do that
Moving Forward
• 90% of problems are SYSTEM problems,
not people problems
− Training,
− Expectations & standards,
− Tools & resources,
− Isolation/repetition
