    History

    ABBA was a was a Swedish pop group formed in Stockholm in

    1972.

    In 1964, Ulvaeus joined the Hootenanny Singers. Later, he and

    Benny met each other. They started to write songs together and

    their first attempt was the song, "Isn't It Easy to Say. Both alsobegan playing with the other bands on stage and on record.

    In 1969, Ulvaeus met Agnetha and Benny met Frida.

    Agnetha and Ulvaeus, they met each other in 1971. After they

    got married, they were involved in each other's recordingsessions.

    In 1973, they sang the song Ring, Ring but it failed to winthe Swedish Eurovision Song Contest.

    After that, from 1973 ABBA started singing and they kept

    making new albums and songs till 1983. Still more albums

    came out after that years.

    In 2006, ABBA The Movie won the Swedish Grammy Award for

    the best DVD.

    On 15 March 2010, ABBA was inducted into the Rock and Roll

    Hall of Fame.

    Members ofABBA

    ABBA isnt a very big group. There are only four people

    in the group.

    They are Benny Andersson, Anni-Frid "Frida" Lyngstad,

    Bjrn Ulvaeus, and Agnetha Fltskog.

    Benny Andersson

    Benny Andersson was bornin Stockholm, Sweden on 16 December

    1946. He is a Swedish musician,

    composer, and a member of the ABBA.

    Andersson's dad was a construction

    engineer. He has a sister named Eva-LisAndersson.

    When Andersson was young, his father

    taught him Swedish folk and traditional

    music.

    He left his school at the age 15 to go

    perform at youth clubs.

    Anni-Frid "Frida" Lyngstad

    Anni-Frid Lyngstad was born on 15

    November 1945 in Ballangen, Norway.

    She is a Swedish pop singer,& is one of

    the four members of ABBA.

    Her father was a German soldier and

    her mother was only 19 when she was

    born. Lyngstad was taken by her

    grandmother to the border of Sweden

    while her mother stayed back to findsome work. But then her mother died

    because of kidney failure when she was

    only 21.

    Bjrn Ulvaeus

    Bjrn Kristian Ulvaeus was born on 25April 1945 in Gothenburg, but when

    he was young, he moved with his

    family to another place. Ulvaeus

    studied business and law at Lund

    University. He is a Swedish songwriter, composer,

    musician, writer, producer, and a

    member of the Swedish musical

    group ABBA.

    After he met Agnetha, he married her

    and they had 2 kids.

    Agnetha Fltskog

    Agnetha Fltskog wasborn on 5 April 1950

    in Jnkping Smland, Sweden . She is a

    Swedish recording artist and entertainer. She

    is a member of the pop group ABBA.

    Her father was a store manager. She has ayounger sister named Mona Fltskog

    Ericsson.

    Agnetha reached stardom when she was in

    the group ABBA.

    She was then later married to Ulvaeus.

    Accomplishments

    Here are the accomplishments of ABBA listed by the year they

    received their awards:

    1974 - won the Goldene Lwe von Radio Luxemburg prize forWaterloo single.

    1975 - won West German music prize for SOS single in acategory Best Song of the Year.

    1978 - won Dutch music prize Edison Award for The Album LP .

    1980 - received Georgie Awardfrom the American Guild ofVariety Artists (AGVA) as The Best Vocal Group of the

    Year.

    1982 - received a Golden Gramophone in recognition of theoutstanding contribution made by ABBA to popularmusic worldwide.

    1982 - received a Swedish culture prize.

    1992 - received an Honorary Grammis Award.

    1993 - won a World Music Award as the Best Selling SwedishArtists of the Year.

    2000 - won the Rockbjrnen Swedish Artist of the Century

    Award.

    2001 - Ulvaeus and Andersson received a SpecialInternational Ivor Novello Award.

    2002 - Andersson is given an honorary professorship by the

    Swedish.

    2002 - received a Japan Gold Disc Award from the Recording

    Industry Association of Japan.

    2006 -ABBA: The Movie won a prize as the Best Music DVD.

    2010 - ABBA are inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.

    Lyngstad and Andersson attend the award ceremony in New York.

    Why I Chose this Group?

    I chose to research on this group because I like this

    group. Also, I chose to do about this group because their

    songs are nice.

    I like the rhythm of some of the songs that they sing, likeEagle or Dancing Queen.

    I dont really like rock songs, and most of the songs that

    they sing, that I know about, arent too rocking.

    The last reason why I chose to do

    my show about this group is

    because of the song Happy New

    Year. It is a very well-known song

    and I like it.
