VALLEY ASSOCIATES FOR INDEPENDENT LIVING, INC.
MISSION STATEMENT:
Promoting self-direction among people with disabilities and removing barriers to independence in the community.
VAIL ANNUAL REPORT FY 2019
Accomplishments
“Life’s most persistent and urgent question is, what are you doing for others?”
Martin Luther King, Jr. spoke those words in 1957 and, as important as that
question was then, it is even more so today.
VAIL is an organization that exists solely to do for others. As you review our
annual report, you will see that this past year, VAIL served 527 individuals
throughout Planning District 6, traveling over 90,000 miles. VAIL staff worked
hard to provide the services that allow individuals with disabilities to remain
in their homes, with the people they love, and part of their communities,
independent and productive.
This has been a year of adjustments, given changes that occurred to systems
and procedures at the state level. Change is rarely easy; indeed, this year has
been full of challenges. But when a group of people is committed to providing
service of the highest quality for individuals who live with significant
challenges every day, they rise to the task. I am proud to say that VAIL staff has
met each and every obstacle with determination, perseverance, skill, and
grace.
The people we serve, often affected by disability unexpectedly, can find
themselves thrown into the maze of service delivery with no clear path to
what they need. VAIL not only provides a map through the maze, we also serve
as guide. We lead, we explain, we advocate, we facilitate, we serve.
Please join me in celebrating the spirit of doing for others that the VAIL staff
embodies, and the independence the people we serve experience as a result.
