Preamble

Thelicensesformostsoftwarearedesignedtotakeawayyour freedom to share and change it. By contrast, theGNUGeneralPublicLicenseisintendedtoguaranteeyourfreedomtoshareandchangefreesoftware--tomakesurethe software is free for all its users. This General PublicLicenseappliestomostoftheFreeSoftwareFoundation’ssoftware and to any other program whose authorscommittousingit.(SomeotherFreeSoftwareFoundationsoftware is covered by the GNU Lesser General PublicLicenseinstead.)Youcanapplyittoyourprograms,too.

When we speak of free software, we are referring tofreedom, not price. Our General Public Licenses aredesigned to make sure that you have the freedom todistribute copies of free software (and charge for thisservice ifyouwish), thatyoureceivesourcecodeorcangetitifyouwantit, thatyoucanchangethesoftwareorusepiecesofitinnewfreeprograms;andthatyouknowyoucandothesethings.

Toprotectyourrights, weneedtomakerestrictionsthatforbid anyone todeny you these rightsor toaskyou tosurrendertherights.Theserestrictionstranslatetocertainresponsibilities for you if you distribute copies of thesoftware, orifyoumodifyit.

Forexample, ifyoudistributecopiesofsuchaprogram, whethergratisor fora fee, youmustgive the recipientsalltherightsthatyouhave.Youmustmakesurethatthey, too, receive or can get the source code. And you mustshowthemthesetermssotheyknowtheirrights.

Weprotectyour rightswith twosteps: (1)copyright thesoftware, and (2) offer you this license which gives youlegal permission to copy, distribute and/or modify thesoftware.

Also, for each author’s protection and ours, we want tomakecertainthateveryoneunderstandsthatthereisnowarrantyforthisfreesoftware.Ifthesoftwareismodifiedby someone else and passed on, we want its recipientsto know that what they have is not the original, so thatanyproblemsintroducedbyotherswillnotreflectontheoriginalauthors’reputations.

Finally, any free program is threatened constantly bysoftware patents. We wish to avoid the danger thatredistributors of a free program will individually obtainpatentlicenses, ineffectmakingtheprogramproprietary. To prevent this, we have made it clear that any patentmust be licensed for everyone’s free use or not licensedatall.

TERMSANDCONDITIONSFORCOPYING,DISTRIBUTIONANDMODIFICATION

0. This License applies to any program or other workwhich contains a notice placed by the copyrightholder saying it may be distributed under the termsof this General Public License. The“Program”, below, referstoanysuchprogramorwork, anda“workbasedon the Program” means either the Program or anyderivativeworkundercopyright law: that is tosay,aworkcontainingtheProgramoraportionofit,eitherverbatimorwithmodificationsand/ortranslatedintoanotherlanguage.(Hereinafter,translationisincludedwithout limitation in the term “modification”.) Eachlicenseeisaddressedas“you”.

Activities other than copying, distribution andmodification are not covered by this License; theyareoutsideitsscope.TheactofrunningtheProgramisnotrestricted, andtheoutput fromtheProgramiscoveredonlyifitscontentsconstituteaworkbasedonthe Program (independent of having been made byrunning the Program).Whether that is true dependsonwhattheProgramdoes.

1. a. You must cause the modified files to carryprominent notices stating that you changed thefilesandthedateofanychange.

b. You must cause any work that you distribute orpublish, that in whole or in part contains or isderivedfromtheProgramoranypartthereof, tobelicensedasawholeatnochargetoallthirdpartiesunderthetermsofthisLicense.

c. Ifthemodifiedprogramnormallyreadscommandsinteractively when run, you must cause it, whenstartedrunningforsuchinteractiveuseinthemostordinaryway, toprintordisplayanannouncementincluding an appropriate copyright notice andanotice that there isnowarranty (orelse, sayingthat you provide a warranty) and that users mayredistribute the program under these conditions, and telling the user how to view a copy ofthis License. (Exception: if the Program itself isinteractive but does not normally print such anannouncement, yourworkbasedontheProgramisnotrequiredtoprintanannouncement.)

These requirements apply to the modified work asa whole. If identifiable sections of that work are notderived from the Program, and can be reasonablyconsidered independent and separate works inthemselves, then this License, and its terms, do notapplytothosesectionswhenyoudistributethemasseparate works. But when you distribute the samesectionsaspartofawholewhichisaworkbasedontheProgram, thedistributionofthewholemustbeonthetermsofthisLicense, whosepermissionsforotherlicenseesextendtotheentirewhole, andthustoeachandeverypartregardlessofwhowroteit.

Thus,itisnottheintentofthissectiontoclaimrightsorcontestyourrightstoworkwrittenentirelybyyou;rather,theintentistoexercisetherighttocontrolthedistributionofderivativeorcollectiveworksbasedontheProgram.

In addition, mere aggregation of another work notbased on the Program with the Program (or with aworkbasedontheProgram)onavolumeofastorageordistributionmediumdoesnotbringtheotherworkunderthescopeofthisLicense.

3. You may copy and distribute the Program (or aworkbasedon it,underSection2) inobjectcodeorexecutableformunderthetermsofSections1and2aboveprovidedthatyoualsodooneofthefollowing:

a. Accompany it with the complete correspondingmachine-readable source code, which must bedistributed under the terms of Sections 1 and 2aboveonamediumcustomarilyusedforsoftwareinterchange;or,

b. Accompanyitwithawrittenoffer, validforatleastthree years, to give any third party, for a chargeno more than your cost of physically performingsourcedistribution,acompletemachine-readablecopy of the corresponding source code, to bedistributed under the terms of Sections 1 and 2aboveonamediumcustomarilyusedforsoftwareinterchange;or,

c. Accompanyitwiththeinformationyoureceivedastotheoffertodistributecorrespondingsourcecode.(Thisalternativeisallowedonlyfornoncommercialdistributionandonlyifyoureceivedtheprogramin object code or executable form with such anoffer, inaccordwithSubsectionbabove.)

Thesourcecodeforaworkmeansthepreferredformof the work for making modifications to it. For anexecutable work, complete source code means allthe source code for all modules it contains, plus anyassociated interface definition files, plus the scriptsused to control compilation and installation of theexecutable. However, asaspecialexception, thesourcecode distributed need not include anything that isnormallydistributed(ineithersourceorbinaryform)withthemajorcomponents(compiler, kernel, andsoon)oftheoperatingsystemonwhichtheexecutableruns, unless that component itself accompanies theexecutable.

If distribution of executable or object code is madeby offering access to copy from a designated place, then offering equivalent access to copy the sourcecode from the same place counts as distribution ofthe source code, even though third parties are notcompelled to copy the source along with the objectcode.

4. You may not copy, modify, sublicense, or distributethe Program except as expressly provided underthis License. Any attempt otherwise to copy, modify, sublicenseordistributetheProgramisvoid, andwillautomaticallyterminateyourrightsunderthisLicense. However, partieswhohavereceivedcopies, orrights, fromyouunderthisLicensewillnothavetheirlicensesterminated so long as such parties remain in fullcompliance.

5. Preamble

Thelicensesformostsoftwarearedesignedtotakeawayyour freedom to share and change it. By contrast, theGNU General Public Licenses are intended to guaranteeyourfreedomtoshareandchangefreesoftware--tomakesurethesoftwareisfreeforallitsusers.

This license, the Lesser General Public License, appliesto some specially designated software packages--typically libraries--of the Free Software Foundation andother authors who decide to use it. You can use it too,but we suggest you first think carefully about whetherthis licenseor theordinaryGeneralPublicLicense is thebetterstrategytouseinanyparticularcase, basedontheexplanationsbelow.

When we speak of free software, we are referring tofreedom of use, not price. Our General Public Licensesare designed to make sure that you have the freedomtodistributecopiesof freesoftware (andchargeforthisservice ifyouwish); thatyoureceivesourcecodeorcangetitifyouwantit;thatyoucanchangethesoftwareanduse pieces of it in new free programs; and that you areinformedthatyoucandothesethings.

Toprotectyourrights, weneedtomakerestrictionsthatforbiddistributorstodenyyoutheserightsortoaskyoutosurrender these rights. These restrictions translate tocertainresponsibilitiesforyouifyoudistributecopiesofthelibraryorifyoumodifyit.

For example, if you distribute copies of the library, whethergratisor fora fee, youmustgive the recipientsalltherightsthatwegaveyou.Youmustmakesurethatthey,too,receiveorcangetthesourcecode. Ifyoulinkother code with the library, you must provide completeobjectfilestotherecipients, sothattheycanrelinkthemwith the libraryaftermakingchanges to the libraryand

recompilingit.Andyoumustshowthemthesetermssotheyknowtheirrights.

We protect your rights with a two-step method: (1) wecopyright the library, and (2) we offer you this license,whichgivesyoulegalpermissiontocopy,distributeand/ormodifythelibrary.

Toprotecteachdistributor, wewanttomakeitveryclearthatthere isnowarrantyforthefree library. Also, if thelibrary is modified by someone else and passed on, therecipients should know that what they have is not theoriginal version, so that the original author’s reputationwillnotbeaffectedbyproblemsthatmightbeintroducedbyothers.

Finally, software patents pose a constant threat to theexistence of any free program. We wish to make surethat a company cannot effectively restrict the users ofa free program by obtaining a restrictive license from apatentholder. Therefore, weinsistthatanypatentlicenseobtained for a version of the library must be consistentwiththefullfreedomofusespecifiedinthislicense.

Most GNU software, including some libraries, is coveredbytheordinaryGNUGeneralPublicLicense.Thislicense, theGNULesserGeneralPublicLicense, appliestocertaindesignated libraries, and is quite different from theordinary General Public License. We use this license forcertain libraries inordertopermit linkingthose librariesintonon-freeprograms.

When a program is linked with a library, whetherstatically or using a shared library, the combination ofthetwoislegallyspeakingacombinedwork, aderivativeof the original library. The ordinary General PublicLicense therefore permits such linking only if the entirecombinationfitsitscriteriaoffreedom.TheLesserGeneralPublicLicensepermitsmore laxcriteria for linkingothercodewiththelibrary.

We call this license the “Lesser” General Public Licensebecause it does Less to protect the user’s freedom thanthe ordinary General Public License. It also providesotherfreesoftwaredevelopersLessofanadvantageovercompetingnon-freeprograms. Thesedisadvantagesarethe reason we use the ordinary General Public Licensefor many libraries. However, the Lesser license providesadvantagesincertainspecialcircumstances.

For example, on rare occasions, there may be a specialneed to encourage the widest possible use of a certainlibrary,sothatitbecomesade-factostandard.Toachievethis,non-freeprogramsmustbeallowedtousethelibrary.Amorefrequentcaseisthatafreelibrarydoesthesamejobaswidelyusednon-freelibraries.Inthiscase,thereislittle to gain by limiting the free library to free softwareonly, soweusetheLesserGeneralPublicLicense.

Although the Lesser General Public License is Lessprotectiveof theusers’ freedom, itdoesensure that theuserofaprogramthat is linkedwiththeLibraryhasthefreedomandthewherewithaltorunthatprogramusingamodifiedversionoftheLibrary.

Theprecisetermsandconditionsforcopying, distributionand modification follow. Pay close attention to thedifference between a“work based on the library” and a“work that uses the library”. The former contains codederived from the library, whereas the latter must becombinedwiththelibraryinordertorun.

GNULESSERGENERALPUBLICLICENSETERMSANDCONDITIONSFORCOPYING,DISTRIBUTIONANDMODIFICATION

0. ThisLicenseAgreementappliestoanysoftwarelibraryor other program which contains a notice placed bythecopyrightholderorotherauthorizedpartysayingit may be distributed under the terms of this LesserGeneralPublicLicense(alsocalled“thisLicense”).Eachlicenseeisaddressedas“you”.

A “library” means a collection of software functionsand/ordatapreparedsoastobeconvenientlylinkedwithapplicationprograms(whichusesomeofthosefunctionsanddata)toformexecutables.

The“Library”,below, referstoanysuchsoftwarelibraryorworkwhichhasbeendistributedundertheseterms.A“workbasedontheLibrary”meanseithertheLibraryor any derivative work under copyright law: that isto say, a work containing the Library or a portionof it, either verbatim or with modifications and/ortranslated straightforwardly into another language.(Hereinafter,translationisincludedwithoutlimitationintheterm“modification”.)

“Sourcecode”foraworkmeansthepreferredformoftheworkformakingmodificationstoit.Foralibrary, complete source code means all the source code forallmodules itcontains, plusanyassociated interfacedefinition files, plus the scripts used to controlcompilationandinstallationofthelibrary.

Activities other than copying, distribution andmodificationarenotcoveredbythisLicense;theyareoutsideitsscope.Theactofrunningaprogramusingthe Library is not restricted, and output from such aprogram is covered only if its contents constitute awork based on the Library (independent of the useoftheLibraryinatoolforwritingit).WhetherthatistruedependsonwhattheLibrarydoesandwhattheprogramthatusestheLibrarydoes.

1. You may copy and distribute verbatim copies of theLibrary’s complete source code as you receive it, inany medium, provided that you conspicuously andappropriately publish on each copy an appropriatecopyright notice and disclaimer of warranty; keepintactall thenoticesthat refer tothisLicenseandtotheabsenceofanywarranty;anddistributeacopyofthisLicensealongwiththeLibrary.

Youmaychargeafeeforthephysicalactoftransferringa copy, and you may at your option offer warrantyprotectioninexchangeforafee.

2. YoumaymodifyyourcopyorcopiesoftheLibraryorany portion of it, thus forming a work based on theLibrary, and copy and distribute such modificationsorworkunderthetermsofSection1above,providedthatyoualsomeetalloftheseconditions:

a. Themodifiedworkmustitselfbeasoftwarelibrary.

b. You must cause the files modified to carryprominent notices stating that you changed thefilesandthedateofanychange.

c. You must cause the whole of the work to belicensedatnochargetoallthirdpartiesunderthetermsofthisLicense.

d. If a facility in the modified Library refers to afunction or a table of data to be supplied by anapplication program that uses the facility, otherthan as an argument passed when the facility isinvoked, then you must make a good faith effortto ensure that, in the event an application doesnot supply such function or table, the facilitystill operates, and performs whatever part of itspurposeremainsmeaningful.

(Forexample, afunctioninalibrarytocomputesquareroots has a purpose that is entirely well-definedindependentoftheapplication.Therefore,Subsection2drequiresthatanyapplication-suppliedfunctionortable used by this function must be optional: if theapplicationdoesnotsupplyit, thesquarerootfunctionmuststillcomputesquareroots.)

These requirements apply to the modified work asawhole. If identifiablesectionsof thatworkarenotderived from the Library, and can be reasonablyconsidered independent and separate works inthemselves, then this License, and its terms, do notapplytothosesectionswhenyoudistributethemasseparate works. distributionofderivativeorcollectiveworksbasedontheLibrary.

In addition, mere aggregation of another work notbasedontheLibrarywiththeLibrary(orwithaworkbased on the Library) on a volume of a storage ordistribution medium does not bring the other workunderthescopeofthisLicense.

3. YoumayopttoapplythetermsoftheordinaryGNUGeneral Public License instead of this License to agivencopyoftheLibrary.Todothis, youmustalterallthenoticesthatrefertothisLicense, sothattheyreferto the ordinary GNU General Public License, version2, insteadoftothisLicense. Once this change is made in a given copy, it isirreversibleforthatcopy, sotheordinaryGNUGeneralPublic License applies to all subsequent copies andderivativeworksmadefromthatcopy.

ThisoptionisusefulwhenyouwishtocopypartofthecodeoftheLibraryintoaprogramthatisnotalibrary.

4. YoumaycopyanddistributetheLibrary(oraportionorderivativeof it,underSection2) inobjectcodeorexecutable form under the terms of Sections 1 and2 above provided that you accompany it with thecomplete corresponding machine-readable sourcecode, which must be distributed under the terms ofSections1and2aboveonamediumcustomarilyusedforsoftwareinterchange.

If distribution of object code is made by offeringaccesstocopyfromadesignatedplace, thenofferingequivalent access to copy the source code from thesame place satisfies the requirement to distributethe source code, even though third parties are notcompelled to copy the source along with the objectcode.

5. AprogramthatcontainsnoderivativeofanyportionoftheLibrary, butisdesignedtoworkwiththeLibrarybybeingcompiledor linkedwith it, iscalleda“workthatusestheLibrary”.Suchawork, inisolation, isnota derivative work of the Library, and therefore fallsoutsidethescopeofthisLicense.

However, linking a“work that uses the Library” withthe Library creates an executable that is a derivativeof the Library (because it contains portions of theLibrary),ratherthana“workthatusesthelibrary”.TheexecutableisthereforecoveredbythisLicense.Section6statestermsfordistributionofsuchexecutables.

Whena“workthatusestheLibrary”usesmaterialfromaheaderfilethatispartoftheLibrary, theobjectcodefor theworkmaybeaderivativeworkof theLibraryeven though the source code is not.Whether this istrueisespeciallysignificantiftheworkcanbelinked

Ifsuchanobjectfileusesonlynumericalparameters, data structure layouts and accessors, and smallmacrosandsmall inlinefunctions(tenlinesorlessinlength),thentheuseoftheobjectfileisunrestricted, regardless of whether it is legally a derivative work.(ExecutablescontainingthisobjectcodeplusportionsoftheLibrarywillstillfallunderSection6.)

Otherwise, iftheworkisaderivativeoftheLibrary, youmaydistributetheobjectcodefortheworkundertheterms of Section 6. Any executables containing thatworkalsofallunderSection6,whetherornottheyarelinkeddirectlywiththeLibraryitself.

6. AsanexceptiontotheSectionsabove, youmayalsocombineorlinka“workthatusestheLibrary”withtheLibrarytoproduceaworkcontainingportionsoftheLibrary, anddistributethatworkundertermsofyourchoice, provided that the terms permit modificationof the work for the customer’s own use and reverseengineeringfordebuggingsuchmodifications.

You must give prominent notice with each copy ofthe work that the Library is used in it and that theLibrary and its use are covered by this License. YoumustsupplyacopyofthisLicense.Iftheworkduringexecutiondisplayscopyrightnotices, youmustincludethe copyright notice for the Library among them, aswellasareferencedirectingtheusertothecopyofthisLicense. Also, youmustdooneofthesethings:

a. Accompany the work with the completecorresponding machine-readable source codefor the Library including whatever changes wereused in the work (which must be distributedunder Sections 1 and 2 above); and, if the workis an executable linked with the Library, with thecomplete machine-readable“work that uses theLibrary”,asobjectcodeand/orsourcecode,sothatthe user can modify the Library and then relinkto produceamodifiedexecutablecontaining themodified Library. (It is understood that the userwhochangesthecontentsofdefinitionsfilesintheLibrary will not necessarily be able to recompiletheapplicationtousethemodifieddefinitions.)

b. UseasuitablesharedlibrarymechanismforlinkingwiththeLibrary.Asuitablemechanismisonethat(1) uses at run time a copy of the library alreadypresentontheuser’scomputersystem,ratherthancopyinglibraryfunctionsintotheexecutable,and(2)willoperateproperlywithamodifiedversionofthe library, if the user installs one, as long as themodifiedversion is interface-compatiblewiththeversionthattheworkwasmadewith.

c. Accompany the work with a written offer, validforat least threeyears, togivethesameuser thematerials specified in Subsection 6a, above, for acharge no more than the cost of performing thisdistribution.

e. Verifythattheuserhasalreadyreceivedacopyofthesematerialsorthatyouhavealreadysentthisuseracopy.

Foranexecutable, therequiredformofthe“workthatuses the Library” must include any data and utilityprograms needed for reproducing the executablefromit. However, asaspecialexception, thematerialsto be distributed need not include anything that isnormallydistributed(ineithersourceorbinaryform)withthemajorcomponents(compiler, kernel, andsoon)oftheoperatingsystemonwhichtheexecutableruns, unless that component itself accompanies theexecutable.

It may happen that this requirement contradicts thelicense restrictions of other proprietary libraries thatdo not normally accompany the operating system.Such a contradiction means you cannot use boththem and the Library together in an executable thatyoudistribute.

7. Youmayplace libraryfacilitiesthatareaworkbasedontheLibraryside-by-sideinasinglelibrarytogetherwithotherlibraryfacilitiesnotcoveredbythisLicense,anddistributesuchacombinedlibrary,providedthatthe separate distribution of the work based on theLibrary and of the other library facilities is otherwisepermitted, andprovidedthatyoudothesetwothings:

a. Accompany the combined library with a copy ofthesameworkbasedontheLibrary, uncombinedwith any other library facilities. This must bedistributedunderthetermsoftheSectionsabove.

b. GiveprominentnoticewiththecombinedlibraryofthefactthatpartofitisaworkbasedontheLibrary, and explaining where to find the accompanyinguncombinedformofthesamework.

8. You may not copy, modify, sublicense, link with, ordistribute the Library except as expressly providedunder this License. Any attempt otherwise to copy, modify, sublicense, linkwith, ordistributetheLibraryis void, and will automatically terminate your rightsunder this License. However, parties who havereceivedcopies, orrights, fromyouunderthisLicensewillnothavetheirlicensesterminatedsolongassuchpartiesremaininfullcompliance.

9. YouarenotrequiredtoacceptthisLicense, sinceyouhave not signed it. However, nothing else grantsyou permission to modify or distribute the Libraryor its derivative works. These actions are prohibitedby law if you do not accept this License. Therefore, bymodifyingordistributingtheLibrary(oranyworkbasedontheLibrary),youindicateyouracceptanceofthisLicensetodoso, andallitstermsandconditionsfor copying, distributing or modifying the Library orworksbasedonit.

10.Each time you redistribute the Library (or any workbased on the Library), the recipient automaticallyreceives a license from the original licensor to copy, distribute, link with or modify the Library subjectto these termsandconditions. Youmaynot imposeany further restrictions on the recipients’ exercise ofthe rights granted herein. You are not responsiblefor enforcing compliance by third parties with thisLicense.

11.If,asaconsequenceofacourtjudgmentorallegationof patent infringement or for any other reason (notlimited to patent issues), conditions are imposed onyou(whetherbycourtorder, agreementorotherwise)thatcontradicttheconditionsofthisLicense, theydonotexcuseyoufromtheconditionsofthisLicense.Ifyou cannot distribute so as to satisfy simultaneouslyyour obligations under this License and any otherpertinentobligations,thenasaconsequenceyoumaynotdistributetheLibraryatall.Forexample,ifapatentlicensewouldnotpermitroyalty-freeredistributionoftheLibrarybyallthosewhoreceivecopiesdirectlyorindirectly through you, then the only way you couldsatisfy both it and this License would be to refrainentirelyfromdistributionoftheLibrary.

If any portion of this section is held invalid orunenforceable under any particular circumstance, the balance of the section is intended to apply, andthe section as a whole is intended to apply in othercircumstances.

It isnotthepurposeof thissectionto induceyoutoinfringeanypatentsorotherpropertyrightclaimsortocontestvalidityofanysuchclaims;thissectionhasthesolepurposeofprotectingtheintegrityofthefreesoftware distribution system which is implementedby public license practices. Many people havemade generous contributions to the wide range ofsoftware distributed through that system in relianceon consistent application of that system; it is up tothe author/donor to decide if he or she is willing todistribute software through any other system and alicenseecannotimposethatchoice.
