Valentina is based on the perfume Valentina designed by Valentino. The ideal for the woman who wears this perfume is classy and feminine with a free spirit and a rebellious twist. The typeface portrays that classic feel and the elegance of a sophisticated woman.

The basis for the physical shape of the letters is derived directly from the shape of the Valentina perfume bottle. Its sleek and rounded nature lends perfectly to the feminine ideal.

The serifs used in the face were inspired by the top shape of the perfume bottle.

The inspiration for the ball terminals was the small round spraying portion of the bottle.

The overall idea for the rounded forms was taken from the circular shape of the bottle.

The sketching process helped develop the basic structure and feel of the typeface. Starting with letters that were foundational to the shapes of the others (A, B, P, H, X, and O), the forms became a typeface.

15

Once sketched, the roughs were scanned and digitized. The letters underwent changes as they progressed and the shapes were perfected as each was pathed using Illustrator.
