Work thatmatters.The winner of the inaugural Aspen Prize for Community College Excellence, Valencia is one of the largest community colleges in Florida, teaching more than 63,000 students annually. But it’s our quality of education, not size, that truly makes us great. Our Seneff Honors College program is viewed by the National Collegiate and Southern Regional Honors Council as one of the exemplary programs in the nation. The Orlando Sentinel dubbed our fine-arts faculty one of the best in the region, and director Steven Spielberg called our film program one of the best anywhere. Access to Valencia’s Dental Hygiene Clinic Valencia’s dental hygiene program supports a fully-

functional dental hygiene clinic on the West Campus where program students provide preventive dental hygiene services to faculty, staff, students and the general public – many times at a rate less than your insurance copay. The dental hygiene program is fully accredited by the American Dental Association’s Commission on Dental Accreditation.

Academic Device Insurance

Cracked cell phone? Water spill on your tablet? Stolen laptop? No worries. Another part of Valencia’s total rewards package is the availability of academic device insurance through the Florida College System Risk Management Consortium. This insurance covers all cell phones, tablets, e-readers, laptops and computers for loss due to theft or accidental damage, including personal devices. Academic device insurance protects against theft, fire, electrical damage, cracked screens, drops and spills from accidental damage, flood, vandalism, water damage and more. Family of employees and students may be included at an additional cost.

Library and Database Services As a faculty member at Valencia, you have full

access to all library services on campus. The libraries of Valencia College provide a variety of learning-centered resources, services and facilities to support a diverse community and enhance teaching excellence. Things happen.We understand.Get Paid Time Off.Known for blazing a trail in education and training, Valencia is now the first among Florida colleges to offer paid time off for part-time faculty members.

We recognize that situations arise that may require our part-time faculty members to be away from the classroom, so effective fall 2017, part-time faculty members teaching academic credit courses receive paid time off. As a part-time faculty member, you’ll receive:

• One half-hour of paid time off for each contact hour taught during a contracted term.

• Paid time off at the start of each scheduled, contracted term

• Time to use in the event of an unforeseen circumstance, illness or emergency

Paid time off is non-cumulative, non-compensable and non-transferable.

FICA Alternativeto Social SecuritySave while you earn with the FICA Alternative to Social Security Plan, also known as the 401(a) FICA Alternative Plan. Part-time faculty members are automatically enrolled in the 401(a) FICA Alternative Plan where 7.5 percent of gross earnings will be placed in a tax-sheltered annuity, in lieu of the current 6.2 percent Social Security contribution, for employees who would not otherwise be eligible for defined retirement plans. The IRS regulations for the plan require that all eligible employees participate in order for Valencia to participate. Valencia’s FICA Alternative Plan is currently administered by VALIC, with flexibility in investment fund options available.

Faculty and Instructional Development: A Comprehensive Program for Valencia’s Learning Leaders

Ready to enhance your practice and develop new and innovative strategies that improve student learning? Valencia’s comprehensive, competency-based Faculty Development Program offers a variety of opportunities in the Valencia EDGE (Employee Development, Growth and Engagement). The EDGE is Valencia’s online learning and career development portal that offers face-to-face seminars and classroom training to online and hybrid courses — giving you variety, quality and, best of all, choice. Courses are uniquely designed and facilitated by Valencia experts — your colleagues.

The intention of the Faculty Development Program is to engage teachers, scholars and practitioners in continuous improvement processes that result in student learning. The courses for Faculty Development span from topics such as action research to service learning, and they are available to both full-time and part-time faculty members.

“Earn as you learn” Associate Faculty Certification Program

Be a part of a professional development program designed specifically for part-time faculty members. The Associate Faculty Certification is Valencia’s way of annually recognizing and rewarding a commitment to enhancing knowledge, skills and abilities that lead to student learning and academic success. The program provides an opportunity to deepen your understanding of the Essential Competencies of a Valencia Educator as a part of a collaborative, innovative teaching community and to earn an increase in pay for contracted contact hours taught.

Circles of Innovation is an evolution of work done at Valencia as part of The Great Teachers Colloquium and creates both physical and digital spaces where self-directed faculty driven by a sense of mastery and common purpose can come to mingle, contribute, collaborate, solve problems and create new forms for great teaching. Circles of Innovation is where good ideas collide and great discoveries are made possible.

To recognize your innovations, contributions and years of service, Valencia offers the following awards programs to shine a light on your accomplishments:

Faculty Association Awards for Excellence in Teaching, Counseling and Librarianship

The purpose of the Faculty Association Awards for Excellence in Teaching, Counseling and Librarianship is to recognize five faculty members who have demonstrated effective and innovative teaching methods and a continuing commitment to student success through student engagement both inside and outside the classroom.

Innovation of the Year Awards

The Innovation of the Year Award, given by The League for Innovation in the Community College, is designed to recognize faculty, staff and administrators who have created and implemented innovative programs, practices, partnerships, policies and activities that improve Valencia’s ability to serve students and the community. Recipients of the award receive an honorary Innovation for the Year certificate from The League for Innovation in the Community College and have the opportunity to attend the annual Innovations Conference. Granting this award provides a venue for showcasing these innovations and the dedicated educators who strive for excellence on a daily basis.

Career Anniversary Awards

Careers at Valencia are about so much more than years served. Career anniversaries are about the individual employee — the unique attributes, special connections and the many ways each employee contributes to student success. The Career Anniversary Program recognizes the anniversary milestones of all employees, including part-time faculty and staff members.
