I am having diabetes since 2005. My blood sugar was under control when I did the blood test in January 2009. Fasting blood sugar was 106 mgs and postprandial was 182 mgs. I do regular walking and follow strict diet plan every day. When I checked yesterday, my blood sugar level increased to fasting of 190 and postprandial of 256 mgs.

This the common problem encountered by many patients. Diabetes is a chronic (long term) disease. Mostly diabetes is progressive disease, sometimes it regresses too. Since diabetes is a progressive disease, blood sugar also rises over a period of time even though diabetes patient regularly follows diet and medications. And every day we have different variety of foods and different type of physical activities, blood sugar varies according to that also. So that only, we advocate diabetes patients to do regular blood sugar checkups once a month and HbA1c once in three month. If one does regular blood checkups, we can detect the increase in blood sugar values early and treat it appropriately.
