Premier Buyers in Bold
*If COVID-19 public health guidelines become more restrictive, sale will be held at LomaLivestock, Loma, CO
Feeding livestock for market is a business venture for many youth involved in both 4-H and
Future Farmers of America (FFA). Producing a marketable animal that meets quality meat
grading standards and that returns a profit to the youth is a challenge. Through educational
livestock marketing programs, guidance from advisors and leaders, 4-H and FFA members
acquire knowledge and understanding of sound livestock production and management
practices. Through this sale, these kids offer market animals to you over the auction block. As
a buyer, your participation in the sale encourages and recognizes youth for their time,
expense, and effort that has gone into raising an animal for market. You may also obtain
advertising value that accrues through the purchase of these animals.
You can attend the sale: We encourage attendance at the sale! The excitement of the
event is an unforgettable experience. There will be auction committeemen on hand to
assist you with any needs you may have on the sale day.
Unable to attend this year? You can purchase by proxy- just call one of the
Chamber Livestock Marketing Committee members shown on the front page.
How to Buy?
Buy-Back: Buyers who don't want their meat can utilize the "buy-back" service
provided at the sale. This process seamlessly sends the animal to the buy-back
buyer. You pay the difference between the hammer price at the auction block
and the buy-back amount. For example, if you purchase a lamb for $450 and
the buy=back price is $50, the total you would owe for that lamb would be
$400.
Split Buying: Split buying is exactly as it sounds. You split the purchase of an
animal with another individual of your choosing. This reduces the cost and the
amount of meat for each party. When the purchase is made, just give all names
to the ring men, auctioneer at time of purchase.
Donation: Donating the meat is a great way to support your favorite non-profit
organization. The youth still benefit from your purchase and you get the
promotion and satisfaction knowing your favorite organization has received a
high quality product. You may also donate the processing fees. If you are
interested in this method, please let us know and we will help you with the
details.
All animals are sold by the head, with the exception of rabbits and chickens, which
are sold as a pen of three. There are several ways to make a purchase at the
livestock auction.
Add-On: When you chose the add-on method of participation, you are choosing to add-
on a specific dollar amount to the sale of an animal. This is for buyers who many not
have the money to buy an animal, but still want to help the youth. For instance, you
know a specific 4-H or FFA member that will be selling her pig through the auction and
you would like to add an extra $250 to the final sale price for her animal. You can do
this by visiting the sale desk PRIOR to or DURING the sale. If you will not be at the sale,
but would still like to make an add-on donation, please contact a member of the
livestock marketing committee. All add-ons must be made by filling out the Add-on
Sheet at the sale In order to respect the time of each person attending the sale, only the
buyer's name will be announced during the actual sale.
How much will I pay and how much meat can I
expect to get from my purchase?
Beef: Avg. Sale Price $3000-$4000, you can expect to get approx. 450 lbs of
packaged meat from a 1200 lb steer. Avg cost for processing beef is $.63/lb,

Hog: Avg. Sale Price $1,400, you can expect to get approx. 130 lbs of packaged
meat from a 260 lb hog. Avg cost for processing a hog is $.63/lb, usually
$140-$160 total cost.

I believe in the future of agriculture, with a faith born not of words but of deeds - achievements won by the present and past generations
of agriculturalists; in the promise of better days through better ways, even as the better things we now enjoy have come to us from the
struggles of former years.
