By Scott Luce Dr. Della Dillard operates
the Hope Clinic in Hale Center . Thursday she added Abernathy's medical clinic to her resume.
''We are going to try to operate it at a reasonable cost. We hope to make it pay for itself," Dr. Dillard said while taking a break from sprucing the place up Tuesday afternoon.
''This was thrown together to help the people of Abernathy have some health care here if they want it. If they don't want it, it will prove itself out. We're trying it to help the people of Abernathy."
Dr. Kit Linton closed the office Monday and all medical records went with her to her Plainview office. For a fee patients can get copies of their records. Dr. Linton's telephone number in Plainview is 296-0911.
The city of Abernathy signed a lease-purchase agreement with Covenant Medical System Tuesday . The city 's $20,000 offer to buy the building was accepted by Covenant. Covenant gave the city the keys to the building while
Covenant's attorneys are reviewing the agreement. The closing is setfor May 15, Mayor Bob Burnett said.
Details of the city's agreement with Dr. Dillard were not immediately available.
She has operated her Hope Clinic since 1996. She graduated from the University of Louisville in Kentucky in 1992. She is currently working toward her masters degree in business administration for physicians at Texas Tech University.
When Dr. Dillard is not in Abernathy she is at her Hale Center Clinic for two days.
"If people are sick on our off days here, they can come to Hale Center," she said.
Her local hours will be 9 a.m. to noon and 1 p.m. to 5 p.m.
"It won't be the same anymore. We have to work with what the system will provide. Medicare and Medicaid don't always pay for the same things or all of what's owed."

Tickets are $12 in advance and $15 at the door. Youth 12 and under are $6. The banquet begins at 6:30 p.m. at the Abernathy school cafeteria.
Bob Curtis (aka "Bubba") has entertained in various civic organizations across America - Southwest Airlines, Texas A&M faculty, ChamberofCommerce banquets, Mississippi State Senate, party gatherings, family reunions, Texas Tech ball games and many sports banquets.

Dr. Della Dillard opened the Abernathy Medical Clinic Thursday morning. She will open the clinic on Tuesdays and Thursdays. Dr. Kit Linton closed the clinic Monday. Trustees approve contracts, improvements
It has been my experience that if you can make people laugh, you can make people listen. Part ofBubba's mission is to let people know that regardless of age, status in the community, everyone can make a difference to someone and therefore make our wofld a better place to live.
He has lived in Lubbock since 1979 and owns Bob's Wood works, Inc., and Bubba's Toys. He has been in business
Chances are you've never "SEEN MY MOMMA" nor heard her speak, but her words are as sharp as an eagle's beak. Bubba's momma says, "If you can't write it and sign it, don't say it."
By Scott Luce Several contracts were ap
proved by Abernathy school trustees in a special meeting Monday.
Superintendent Herb Youngblood recommended probationary contracts for Tricia Pace, Laura Kelley, Lea Ann Lust and Jill Holt.
He recommended term contracts for Angie Cunningham, Beth Harkey, Holly Williamson, Dora Turner, Rosi Montoya and Karen Flynn.
Youngblood recommended a term contract for coach Jimmy Burns. Probationary contracts were recommended for assistant coaches Benton Buckley
and Billy Quinn. The resignation ofKimberly
Crisler was accepted as were the contract recommendations by unanimous 7-0 votes.
Youngblood said that Crisler's high school English position would not be filled for the next school year. In other cost-cutting measures, he notified five aides that "at this time" their positions "probably" won't be available for the next school year. The district has 34 aides. It would take an increase in state funding or the student population to keep the aides, he said.
Trustees revisited the "early separation" package offered to
16 eligible teachers. The original agreement did not offer $22,400 as the lump sum payment. It offered $22,240. The new amount is equal to half the annual salary of the eligible teachers.
Also, the payment will be included with the employee's last paycheck from the district.
Youngblood has not received any signed early separation agreements from teachers but
· he has been told there is some interest. The deadline to accept the early separation agreementisApr. 17.
Facilities update Trustees approved a few
improvements.
The band practice field will have a new sprinkler system installed this year. That project is expected to cost $10,000.
Concrete will be repaired in' front of the middle school at a cost between $15,000 and $20,000. Also, a concrete sidewalk will be built in the KIDs building playground.
All votes passed 7-0. Local policy update
Before acting on contracts and improvements, trustees spent two hours reviewing local policies. A consultant made some recommendations which, for the most part, were accepted by trustees. Some recommendations were changed.

We Care met a t the EMS building Monday night. About 40 people showed up to help tie ribbons and volun teer to help the Red Cross. Skeet Engle, will chair the We Care Program and keep everyone informed on our soldiers and any information she gets from the Red Cross. We have 4 drop off boxes right now, Secu rity Bank , First State Bank, Abell F lower Shop and Abernathy City Hall. Teenie Burnett, Jenny Blanco and Skeet Engle will pick up these items each week and sort them for the Red Cross.
We desperately need money donations to help with postage and packaging. Red Cross has the boxes, they just need manpower to sort donated items and package them. All items have to be inspec ted by the military before they will ship anything out.
Anything we gather for the troops will go to them, but the
military and Red Cross will determine where they go and where they are most needed.
We will not tell them any cer ta in soldier to send it to, we are just wanting to help all our soldiers. We have several soldiers from Abernathy and we hope to get them a ll listed in the Abernathy Weekly Review.
lfyou can help with a don ation please take it to Security Bank, First State Bank or Abernathy City Hall. We will see that it gets taken to the Red Cross.
Please send us your soldiers name and address so we can give to a ll the churches, and put their names in the Weekly Review, if you have a picture to spare send that also. Send to We Care, 311 Ave. J., Abernathy 79311 or call one of us with the information.
Any questions you may call J enny, Teenie or Skeet.
Thanks, Skeet Engle
