The Grecian Valley The carefully planted belt of trees creates the impression of height and length in the Grecian Valley. Stand in the middle of the top step of the Temple, to see General Wolfe’s Obelisk, Cobham’s Pillar and the sweeping expanse of the valley all at once. Temple of Friendship Looking from the Temple it is possible to see the Gothic Temple, Doric Arch, Palladian Bridge, Queen’s Temple and Wooden Bridge in the setting of rolling hills and rippling waters of the lake. Elysian Fields The open setting of this part of the gardens tells the story of heaven on earth, otherwise known as Elysium in ancient Greek mytholo. For this reason there is the intended feeling of beauty and spaciousness, with sunny glades and open planting of trees. Standing at the Cascade This is one of the most magical spots of Stowe for every season and time of day. Looking out towards the Eleven Acre Lake gives the impression of standing on a precipice towards infinity, particularly when the sun starts to set over the waters or when there is a breeze passing through the arch. Subtle glimpses of Stowe The Grecian Valley All along the gravel path of the Grecian Valley there are glimpses of the Temple of Concord and Victory through gaps in the tree line and from small clearings of grass where statues once stood. Eleven Acre Lake There is a wonderful viewpoint that offers several spectacular views to the West Boycott Pavilion, the cascade at the end of the Eleven Acre Lake and the magnificent Rotunda with the statue of Venus. Season’s Fountain From the path near the Season’s Fountain, follow the meandering paths to discover the bend in the path which leads you to the perfect viewpoint of the Grotto.
