We are fast approaching the end of yet another school year. With each year, the resource program expands and further

develops to meet the needs of our students and staff. We have provided learning support for specific learning needs

throughout all grade levels. Specialized support such as numeracy and literacy programs were provided through small

groups, 1:1 time with an EA, or with one of the learning support teachers.

Individualized education plans have been implemented for 10 students with higher level needs. EAL support has been

provided in class, through small groups or one-to-one, for the students who qualify. Our learning support teachers, Allison

Aitken and Leslie Bardal also provided literacy support to individuals or small groups of students from grades 1 - 4

throughout the year. Our guidance counsellor, Shannon Moffatt implemented the Feeling Buddies program with all of our

kindergarten students as well as those new students in grade 1 and 2. She has provided social-emotional support to

individual students throughout the year.

Mrs. Bardal would like to thank the parents and students that worked with her in Reading Recovery this year! Your

dedication to literacy is appreciated!

It is with very mixed feelings that we need to say farewell to one of the staff members that has been with us for the longest

at NES. We congratulate Maggie Funk on her upcoming retirement. She has been with NES for 32 years! We thank her for

the dedication she has given to NES as a grade 1 - 4 learning support teacher.

We also want to take the opportunity to congratulate Mrs. Allison Aitken on the completion of her Masters of Education

degree. She has accepted the new position as our divisional Reading Clinician. We appreciate the 8 years of dedication she

has given to NES as a grade 2 teacher and as our grade 2 - 4 learning support teacher. We welcome Brenda Lytwyn as our

new grade 1 to 4 learning support teacher for the 2016 - 2017 school year.

NES continues to benefit from excellent divisional clinicians. A big thank you for the support that Laurie Kraynyk

(Counsellor/Social Worker), Stacey Misko (Speech and Language), Stephen Schluter (School Psychologist), and Dani Mellor

(Occupational Therapist) have provided. We will announce the clinicians assigned to our school for the 2016 - 2017 school

year in the September newsletter.

The pre-kindergarten orientation took place on May 18th and 19th. It was delightful to meet the next 93 children who will

be joining our school family. We will have 5 classes attending full day, alternate day, kindergarten in the fall. Please

remember to return your child’s Eye-See-Eye-Learn optometrist form to the teacher in the fall or as you have the check up

done. If you are aware of any other students born in 2011 that have yet to register, please direct them to our office.

If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to call. Have a fun and safe summer.

Allison Aitken, Leslie Bardal, Shannon Moffatt and Valerie Kosman

would be small shovels, castle frames, vehicles, and diggers. You are welcome to drop

them off at the office or have your child bring them to school and give them to their
