PROBLEM

Innovations in technology have been a catalyst for connecting friends together. None have been better than social media websites and their integration with mobile devices.

Despite the wonders of technology, many of these applications fail to deliver requirements of today's young adults, many of which are plagued with added features and internet connection limitations. These individuals, although technologically savvy, also long for memorable experiences that they can share with their friends in person.

SOLUTION

V energy drinks ‘V mate’ mobile/social application will aid in bringing friends together through the use of mobile technology. A series of simple features within the app will aid individuals in finding friends and experiences that they want to share!

Through 3G/Wi-Fi connectivity, the ‘V mate’ application will allow constant connection and interaction with friends who also have the application.

An Augmented reality friends locator, which shows friends position in relation to where the users mobile camera is pointing

To connect with friends through the ‘V mate’ mobile application, the user needs to turn on the app and have constant connection to a 3G/Wi-Fi network

At special events, where this type of technology experiences lag or downtime, dedicated ‘V mate’ application Wi-Fi signal boosters should be installed. Such events would include:

Concerts

Launch parties

The Wi-Fi signal boosters will only accept connections and transmissions from ‘V mate’ mobile applications within the given area, making the users of this application able to be in contact throughout the event.

This has a successfully proven method of locating individuals already, through the Rosemount mobile locator application.

The ‘V mate’ application connects users to their friends (who also have the ‘V mate’ application) and allows them to interact with each other in real time.

A user connects the ‘V mate’ application to their Facebook profile and phonebook. The user than selects the friends that they wish to be connected with. To complete the connection, the selected friends are sent a request through Facebook to accept the connection and download the mobile application.

To add a new person to your ‘V mates’ list, the user of the application merely searches for the persons unique ‘V mates’ account (which is directly linked to their Facebook account) and sends a request to that person.

Note: connections will only show of people that are currently using the application. If application is not turned on, no data can be pulled for others to see.

W H AT YO U C A N T The ability to locate your friends using the augmented reality tool of the

‘V mate’ application will make finding your friends much easier.

Users hold up their phone in the direction that they are looking and the ‘V mate’ application will give the user (through pins) the location of their friends, how many different venues in that direction and approximately how far the user has to travel to get to the location.

By pressing on the buttons on one of their friends names in the expanded bubble, the user will see a full list of friends at that location and information about the specific venue. They user also has options to chat to the individual through the application at this stage.

To view other pins on the map, the user simply moves the camera so that the pin is closest to the centre of the screen. The current pin will minimize and the pin that is not in the centre of the screen will expand .

This function of the ‘V mate’ application will be a valuable tool to find friends in close proximity (such as a festivals or concerts) where the map view would not be able to zoom in to such fine detail.

The ‘V mate’ application will make locating friends* easy by allowing users to constantly feed their locations to their selected friends.

The ‘V mate’ application will ask the person if they wish to show their location to their connections. The user will opt-in to this option by selecting the location that best describes where they are located (if they do not wish to opt-in but still be online, they can select ‘do not wish to share my location’)

The locations will be shown through pins on a map number representing the number of people at a particular location. The user of the application can expand each pin by pressing on it, to gain more information about the location, how many friends are currently occupying it, as well as send instant chat messages to that person through the application. A zoom functionality will allow users to see more details in map or more of the map with a zoom out option.

This function is ideal for the user to see where their friends are located in a larger area and connect with them.

The ‘V mate’ application will give users the ability to instantly message one another using the chat feature.

Users can access this either through the homepage and select the friend they wish to chat to, or through the locator/augmented reality locator options. Users in the instant message function of the application can then invite others to join in the conversation.

Individuals will be distinguished in different colours and actions by users will be placed in brackets and will be in italic. These features will make it easier for users to distinguish between actions and other users.

To type, the user simply taps on the screen to bring up the keyboard. When the user sends the message, the keyboard will automatically retract and the shortcut icons will re-appear.

This function of the application is ideal when mobile signals delay mobile phone calls and SMS messages, such as large festivals and concerts. By using the instant messaging function of the ‘V mate’ application, users will be able to keep in constant communication with one another.

The ‘V mate’ application will allow users to share their experience in real-time, through the video streaming function of the application.

The user selects the option to stream a video through the instant messaging function. While the video is streamed between two people they will not be able to chat.

The window will show a thumbnail of who is watching the video. If either users exit the streaming function of this application, the other will simultaneously be brought back to the chat screen, where conversation can continue.

This function of the application is ideal for users to show their friends exactly where they are, who they are with and the experience they are having. This function can also act as a guide to show the location of the individual so that two people can come together, yet another valuable tool for festivals and concerts that V is associated with.

The ‘V mate’ application will be fully synchronised with an individuals personal social profiles.

The option to update an individuals social network (outside of the ‘V mate’ application) will be given after a certain action is performed.

The option to extend such updates to the individuals social network community will appear as a checkbox after such actions have taken place.

Visa Versa, through installing the application and using it while on other social networking applications, ‘V mate’ will update the individuals application with the same written and location updates.

The ‘V mate’ application will be fully compatible with a range of smart phones including:

To use this application the user will need to have the application running and have the settings set so that the phone will have continuous 3G, 4G or Wi-Fi connection.

The ‘V mate’ application should be launched through V energy drinks association with one of the major national festivals. This will give the application maximum potential for virility around Australia

As stated before, festivals and large scale concerts are ideal for such an application concept, as mobile reception is put under tremendous strain.

Such a launch will act as a catalyst for festival attendees in the future to share this application with fellow friends and extend the usage of such an app beyond the initial launch event. Through the use of Facebook updates and the creation of a new tab on the V energy drink Facebook Fan page, the extent of use of such an application can be explained beyond its initial purpose.

The ‘V mate’ application can provide advertisement space for venue’s and special events. This can provide an on-going revenue stream for V, as popular locations and brands will bid to have their brand in certain sections of the application.

This can be extended to special events V is associated with, such as Festivals for cross promotional endeavours. The promoters can use the app as a means to virtually display their event maps while the V application can be pushed as the main digital application of the event.

Special/popular places of interest of the target audience of this application can further enhance their location on the locator functions by customising skin and logo designs which will make their venue stand out. This could also be an extra source of on-going revenue for the application and the V brand.
