INTRODUCTION TO THE STUDY

The organisational study was undertaken to study the department functions of

V- Guard Industries Ltd. Established in the year 1977, from the vision of one

man, Mr Kochouseph Chittilapilly. V-Guard’s product range deals into various

ranges of products which cater the requirements of consumer durable industry,

agriculture and construction sectors of the country. The aim of the study

conducted in V- Guard is to acquire practical knowledge of the application of

management theories in the functioning of the organization.

INDUSTRIAL PROFILE

The electrical equipment industry comprises several products such as

transformers, switchgears, motors and control equipment. The main buyers of

electrical equipment are power utilities. A typical electric equipment

component has a life of 20-25 years; hence, replacement demand would

incrementally add to the growth opportunities. The raw material cost of

electrical equipment manufacturers is estimated at 50-60% of sales. Primary

raw materials include copper, aluminium and steel. A few large players

dominate the electrical equipment industry. However, several other small and

medium-sized players too specialise in specific product lines. In addition, there

has been substantial competition from Chinese equipment’s manufacturers

especially in the high voltage category.

COMPANY PROFILE

V-Guard Industries Ltd. (VGIL), founded in 1977 was promoted by Mr

Kochouseph Chittilappilly. In November 15, 2001 the Company was converted

into a private limited company and again got converted into a public limited

company on August 1, 2007. The company mainly operates in three divisions,

which are electronics (manufacturing voltage stabilisers, UPS and digital home

UPS), electrical/ electro-mechanical products (for PVC insulated cables,

pumps, water heaters, fans and LT power and control cables) and others (solar

water heaters, gas water heaters, water level controller, windmill energy

etc).V-Guard Industries Ltd has crossed a gross turnover of Rs.1000 crores for

the financial year 2011-12. V-Guard has employee strength of more than 1300

and over 5500 indirect employees. Also it has 230 distributors and service

centres and above 9500 retailers and 50 million customers.

CONCLUSION

V guard industries are the major company of producing consumer durables and

also a company having high goodwill. Now the company is running

successfully. The earnest effort of the management and the willing co-

operation of the workers put it on track successfully. Now the company is

really in the developed stage and is also moving ahead to import its products.

The company is strived to achieve an established position and reputation

through its various marketing strategies. The dedicated corporate social

responsibility that the company has towards the society and the employees

makes V-guard to have a good brand image.

The company is also working hard to achieve its vision “let us

endeavour to make V-Guard a trusted household name” and as per their effort

put on it will achieve its vision one day.
