EXPECTATIONS
Groups that find time to meet outside of Thrive, tend to develop stronger relationships. Guides find it easi-
er to lead discussion and for students to open up about life. The Challenges are also a great way for families
of small groups to build relationships (assuming you invite family members to participate).
Twice a year (minimum) we want to challenge small groups to get together outside of Thrive to engage in
primarily service work but also fellowship (social) activities.
We ask for parents of small group members to head-up the Thrive Challenges freeing up Guides to focus on
the weekly commitment. We ask for these commitments in the beginning of each year at the Thrive Kickoff.
For a list of suggestions see the Thrive page on the church website or the back of this page.
www.stjohnsbloomington.org
Find an activity that can engage the whole group and even families.
Poll group members and parents for ideas and check the church publications
for additional activities.
Keep it simple. Clean a park, attend a service project at church, help an elderly
neighbor with landscaping…
Get the word out to all families. WHO, WHAT, WHEN, WHERE, HOW
Make sure there is adequate supervision (one or all Guides should attend)
and transportation.
Consider ending the event with ice cream or pizza for a time of social/
fellowship.
Midwest Food Bank
What: Help sort and pack food that is distributed to
area food banks around the country.

-8:30PM but groups could help for part of that time.
Lutheran World Relief In-Gathering
What: Help unload boxes of school kits and quilts and
load into semi-trailer. Free snacks and meals provid-
ed.
When: St. John’s is a central donation spot on the last

can help for as little as a half hour.
Yard Clean-Up
What: Landscape work for the grounds at
St. John’s.
When: Sponsored by the Property Ministry Team,
there are usually two events per year in the spring
and fall. People arrive early morning and work until
noon to rake, pull weeds and accomplish other yard
tasks.
