1. Parchments Awards to Foreign Gentleman Cadets

Indian Military Academy (IMA) is a Premier Military Training Institute imparting pre-commissioning training to Gentlemen Cadets of more than 14 friendly foreign countries. 41 Foreign Gentleman Cadets from five countries were awarded with the UTU Diploma/ Certificate course in Defense Management & Studies for autumn term 2016 by Honorable Vice Chancellor, Prof. P.K Garg in a ceremonial function on 7th December 2016, at Khetrapal Auditorium, IMA Dehradun

2. Visit to U-SERC

Vice Chancellor, Prof. P.K Garg, visited U-SERC in connection with the ongoing activities there and possibility of collaborative work on networking of the Institutions.

Prof Garg had a detailed discussions with Dr Durgesh Pant Director, U SERC who took keen interest and showed various facilities, including studio for recording e-lectures and networking facilities. Prof Garg also saw various educational websites developed by U SERC for students, and appreciated their efforts.

3. CS and ACS meeting For successful conduct of semester examination of technical courses, the CS/ACS and Observers’ meeting was held at the University on 11th December 2016 . Various aspects for successful and timely conduct of examinations were discussed.

4. Panel Discussion Vice Chancellor, Prof. P.K Garg on 19th December 2016 inaugurated the Panel Discussions on Changing Role of Pharmacy Profession in Present Global Scenario, organized by Centre of Excellence in Pharmacy, at Dev Bhoomi Group of Institutions, Dehradun. Various Panelists from Academics and Industry were present on the occasion.

5. AIU meeting of North Zone Vice Chancellors

The AIU meeting of North Zone Vice Chancellor’s was held at Amity University Noida Campus on 22nd and 23rd December 2016.

Various useful presentations were made about the higher education with specific reference to University system. The Vice Chancellor, Prof. P.K Garg also attended the meeting.

6. Research Methodology Course for Ph.D. Scholars

The University organized the course work on Research Methodology for Ph.D. Research Scholars from December, 23rd to 30th, 2016. There is a compulsory requirement for PhD scholars to pass this course. The course work was designed to impart knowledge on Research Methodology in the context of qualitative and quantitative research along with training in statistical packages and other software across various fields. It also highlighted various guidelines of UTU to write thesis. Experts from various fields were invited to deliver the contents. Prof Garg also delivered a talk to the scholars. 252 Ph.D research scholars participated on Research Methodology course.

7. Surprise Visits to Institutions during Examinations

On December, 27th and 28th 2016 regarding external surprise inspection of end semester examinations, the Vice Chancellor, Prof. P.K Garg visited SIMT, Kashipur, Amrapali Group of Institutions, Haldwani and Surajmal Laxmidevi Sawarthia Educational Trust, Sirolly, Kichha, Mahadevi Institute of Engg., Rishikesh, OMIT, Rishikesh and other institutes in the region.

Prof. Garg also had a meeting with the faculty members of the Surajmal Laxmidevi Engg Institute, to discuss the faculty responsibilities, solve any facility-related issues that affect the learning environment, starting

R&D activities, and issues that might benefit from

faculty intervention.

8. Madan Mohan Malaviya 155th Birth Anniversary

Madan Mohan Malaviya (1861–1946) was an Indian educationist and politician notable for his role in the Indian independence movement and as remained four times president of Indian National Congress. He was respectfully addressed as Pandit Madan Mohan Malaviya and also as 'Mahamana'

On his 155th birth anniversary, Mahamna Seva Sansthan, Haridwar organized a Prize distribution program for the eminent academicians and social workers. Vice Chancellor, Prof. P.K Garg, was awarded with Mahamana Malviya Award for his contributions to technical education.

9. Exam Reform Committee meet To reform the various procedure of examination system, the examination reform committee meeting was held in December 2016, the following members were present : Prof. J.P Saini, Director, Dr. Ambedkar Institute of Technology for Handicapped, Dr. K.S Vaisla, Controller of Examination, Mr. Arun Sharma, Asst. Controller of Examination and Dr. Vimlesh Dimri, Examination Department, UTU.

10. Maternity Leave Govt. Order Govt. of Uttarakhand, vide Govt. order no. 250/XXVII(7)/2009 and XXVII(7) 34(1)/2009, dated 12th September 2016, issued an order for maternity leave for female employee. The Govt. Order is available on Uttarakhand Govt. and University websites.

11. Dr. A.P.J Abdul Kalam Institute of

Technology

Govt. of Uttarakhand vide order no. 1671/XLI-1/2016-37/2012 TC1 dated 28th November 2016, renamed the Institute of Technology, Tanakpur as Dr. A.P.J Abdul Kalam Institute of Technology, Tanakpur with immediate effect.

Prof P K Garg visited Dr. A.P.J Abdul Kalam Institute of Technology, Tanakpur on Dec 29, 2016. He met with the students and faculty and discussed various issues related with further development and providing better facilities. Prof Garg also inspected the various facilities of the Institute which are under construction.

Ph.D Viva Voce held The University recently conducted seven Ph.D viva-voce exams in Applied Science, Chemistry, Computer Science and Engineering, Management and Pharmacy December 2016. The viva voce exams Mohd. Amin Mir, Swati Raina, Monika Dahiya, Kadambari Agarwal, Poonam Tripathi, Shilpa Srivastava and Amit Kumar Uniyal, were successfully completed by the University.

SIHMCT & AN, New Tehri

1. Odd Semester University External Examinations

The 1st year students had their first exam on 14th December which will end on 26th December 2016. The 2nd year students began their exams from 15th December which will last till 27th December 2016. After the main exams, back papers will start for the students. The centre of the examination was selected as SIHMCT & AN, New Tehri itself. All the necessary and mandatory requirements for the examination centre were installed with the most importantly the provisions of CCTV cameras in the examination hall and other important places of the institute.

2. Inauguration of New Building of SIHMCT & An, New Tehri

The inauguration of SIHMCT & AN, New Building New Tehri was done by Hon’ble Tourism Minister, Govt of Uttarakhand, Shri Dinesh Dhanai on 18th December 2016 with an estimated cost of Rs. 1148.70 lakhs.

The minister said that the Institute would help the students from far flung areas of Uttarakhand to have quality education of hospitality management which would help them to get better prospects and opportunities related to the Hospitality sector. The minister also added that the first phase of the Institute

would be completed by the next month January 2017 and the Institute would be shifted to the new premises which would have the main building, including BTK (Basic Training Kitchen), QTK (Quantity training Kitchen), Pantries, Dining hall, 4 class rooms. In the 2nd phase, the Institute would also have its hostel and administrative block.

3. Equipment Received at SIHMCT & AN, New Tehri

SIHMCT & AN received its Kitchen equipments and classroom equipments, which were supervised and inspected by Director Dr. Yashpal Negi and Academic In-charge Mr. Pradeep Negi. The equipment received were in good quality and condition for QTK (Quantity training kitchen), QTK pantry, Bakery and confectionary and BTK (Basic training kitchen) classroom furniture for its four classrooms.

Amrapali Group of Institutes

1. Hand book of Bar and Beverages and Training Manual for F&B Services

Shri Mahendra Singh Negi, Asst. Professor - F&B Services, Faculty of Hospitality Management, Amrapali Group of Institutes authored two books titled Hand book of Bar and Beverages and Training Manual for F&B Services for hotel management students this year. It covers all the MHM and BHMCT syllabus of UTU.

2. Check in Competition The front office department with the help of Club for Change initiated to enhance and empower the technical skills & soft skills through various activities. The activity was held on 3rd December 2016 at the front office lab. Large number of students participated in the competition. The students performed different Role Plays of Check-in Procedures of VIP’s, Role Play of GIT, Role Play of FIT & SPATT. The students took initiative to tailor made the front office lab according to requisite role plays.

Activity Details: - Learning Outcome:- The student will be able to independently

handle real time situations after successfully doing the role plays .

3. Christmas and New Year Event by Students Continuing on trend of the festive season celebration, a students team took the responsibility for the decoration of the lobby of Hotel Management department.

This activity has basically the objectives that a practical learning exposure has to be carried out pertaining to special decoration. A fantastic Christmas and New Year decoration was done by students where they got a chance to platform their skills and ideas on an open platform. Along with the festival celebration, the students wanted to give the message to the society that God is one even if you address him with different names. Another objective behind this event was to give a message as to why Christmas is celebrated. With Christmas comes the new year and this event has the glimpses of year going and welcoming the New Year.

J.B. Institute of Technology

1. Best Paper Award Mr. Sandeep Kumar Chaudhary, Assistant Professor, Deptt. of Mathematics and Dr. Rakesh Prakash Tripathi received the best paper award at International Conference at Greater Noida Campus of IIT Roorkee during December 2 to 4, 2016, for their paper entitled Establishment of inventory model with Weibull distribution deterioration, inventory level demand and shortages.

2. Students Participated in Dehradun Marathan-2016 organized by Uttarakhand Police A group of students from the Institute participated in Dehradun-Marathan-2016 organized by Uttarakhand Police on Dec. 11. Mr. Saurabh Sharma HOD-BBA overall coordinated the team. Marathon was organized to make awareness against drugs and corruption. Mr. Harish Rawat- Chief Minister, Govt. of Uttarakhand was the Chief Guest of the event.

Mr. Dinesh Agarwal, Sports Minister, Govt. of Uttrakhand, Sweeti Aggarwal, SSP, Dehradun were other delegates present in the Marathan.

4. Anti Drugs Campaign organized by Uttarakhand Police

An awareness program was organized at the Institute by Police Department to make awareness among the students for avoidance of drugs. A detailed presentation was made by police officers where students were urged to help the police in anti drugs campaigns.

Joint Director and Dean (Academics) Mr. Pankaj Chaudhary thanked to the police officers for providing such a nice awareness opportunities to the students. Chairman- Mr. L. D. 3. Educational visit organized at UCOST-Regional Science Center, Dehradun An educational trip was organized for the selected first year students at Regional Science Center, Dehradun. Students were educated after viewing and participating in live projects, models and science experiments.

Joint Director and Dean (Academic) Mr. Pankaj Chaudhary thanked to the authorities of UCOST and urged to students to emphasize more on practical applications of science to contribute at their level in the vision of Make in India.

Students and faculty members of Department of Computer Science & Engineering organized one day Workshop cum seminar on “Recent Trends & Development in Computer Science Education: Challenges and Opportunities”.

Chief Guest of the event Mr Vinod Kumar Taneja-Director (Technical), National Informatics Center, Dehradun shared his thoughts and experiences in development of computing in last two decades. He also emphasized the need of technological knowledge upgradation with time.

Dr. Ashutosh Bhatt, State Co-ordinator Uttarakhand Science Education and Research, explained technical details of cloud computing and security measures required in cloud based networks.

Director Dr. Amit Bansal appreciated the use of computer technologies in day to day life of common masses. Joint Director & Dean (Academics) Mr. Pankaj Chaudhary give his presentation on various emerging potential job sectors in computer science that will prevail in coming years. Chairman Mr. L. D. Singhal, Vice Chairman Mr Sandeep Singhal, Secretary Mr. Rajat Singhal and faculty members and students of CSE were present during the seminar.

5. “GENPACT, Noida” in Pool Campus

A well-known IT Giant – “GENPACT, Noida”- hosted its open pool campus drive at JB Institute of Technology, Dehradun on Dec. 19.

822 students from 19 different colleges of Uttarakhand appeared in the campus placement drive with full enthusiasm. After several rounds of selection procedures, a total of 60 students from different colleges were selected. 11 students were selected from JB Institute of Technology, Dehradun. 6. Open Pool Campus drive by Maintec Technologies Pvt. Ltd, Noida

Reputed Cloud Infrastructure Based IT Company – “Maintec Technologies Pvt. Ltd, Noida” hosted its open pool campus drive at JB Institute of Technology, Dehradun on December 21.

7. Pool Campus “eClerx Services Pvt. Ltd, Chandigarh”

Reputed Chandigarh based IT multinational company – “eClerx Services Pvt. Ltd, Noida” hosted its open pool campus drive at JB Institute of Technology, Dehradun on Dec. 23. 559 students from 31 different colleges of Uttarakhand appeared in the campus placement drive with full enthusiasm. After several rounds of selection procedures, a total 116 students from different colleges were selected. 17 students were selected from JB Institute of Technology, Dehradun.

1. Fresher Party 2016 On 8th Dec, senior students (MBA, BBA and BCA) of SDIMT organized a Party to welcome Freshers of the Institute. Programme was started with ‘Saraswati Vandana’ and ‘Deep Prajwallan’ by Pradhan of the Institution Prof. Rasa Singh Rawat ji, Yogendra Singh Chauhan ji, Mantri, Hari Gopal Shastri ji, Vice Chancellor, Radhey Shyam Kaushik ji, Uppradhan, Yogendra Singh Chauhan ji, Mahesh Pratap Rana ji, Member, Anil Goyal ji, MD, A.C.Ohri ji, Rajesh Goel ji, Ankush Ohri ji, managing Committee and Prof S.C. Dhamija, Director General.

Everyone welcomed and showered their blessings to new students for their better future. Students also showed their performance in various cultural programs. Mr. Prabhjot from MBA was declared as Mr. Fresher, Ms. Shivani from BCA as Ms. Fresher, Mr. Ajay Rana was declared as Mr. Eve and Ms. Akansha as Ms. Eve.

2. Blood donation Camp Swami Darshnanand Institute of Management & Technology with Sanatan Seva Misson organised a Blood Donation Camp, which started with ‘Deep Prajawallan’ by Chief Guest Shri Harbans Singh Chugh, District Magistrate, Haridwar, Shri Madan Kaushik, MLA UK, Dr. Hari Goplal Shastri, Kulpati Gurukul Mahavidyalaya, Sh. Program proceeded with Saraswati Vandana by Ms. Jyoti and Ms. Anjali, students of BBA, and prize distribution to the students for the Best Slogan Writing on ‘Blood Donation’ and ‘Clean Ganga’.

Sh Harbans Singh Chugh ji, DM Haridwar addressed the audience and motivateed the students and told them the importance of blood donation. He said that blood donation on one side saves others life, and on the other hand it removes the disparities among different religions, castes and creeds.

Prof S.C. Dhamija, Director SDIMT told about the importance of ‘Angdaan’. Sh Madan Kaushik, BJP Vidhayak addressed the students and inspired them for blood donation. He said that everybody if medically fit should donate blood atleast twice a year. Ms Anjali from Sanatan Seva Trust told about the working of the trust, how it is serving for the welfare of children by providing free evening classes to rural children at their place. Mr. Purushottam, OSD CM also participated in blood donation. All the students and staff members participated in blood donation with the great zeal.

College of Engineering Roorkee

1. 18th Foundation Day

College of Engineering Roorkee organized a day program to commemorate the 18th Foundation Day Celebrations of COER on Saturday, December 3, 2016 in Vardhman Auditorium.

The Chief Guest for the function, Sh. Govind Singh Kunjwal, Speaker, Uttarakhand Legislative Assembly, Guests of Honour, Shri. U. C. Jain, Chairman, the Vardhman Developers, Shri. Pramod Jain, CMD, Vardhman Electrical Appliances and the other dignitaries inaugurated the celebration by lighting the ceremonial lamp. Many officials from different organizations were also present during the commemoration of the 18th Foundation Day Celebration of COER. After Deep Prajwalan, Shri. J. C. Jain, Chairman, COER welcomed all the dignitaries and guests. He explained how and why the COER has been established in Roorkee. Moreover, he highlighted the importance of technical education in the present era and how COER can contribute to improve the education scenario of the country. Maj Gen A.K. Chaturvedi, AVSM, VSM (Retd) Director General, COER shared the achievements and future projection of the institution in the education sector. Chief Guest Sh. Govind Singh Kunjwal, Speaker, Uttarakhand Legislative Assembly, while addressing the august gathering on this auspicious occasion expressed his vast experiences how education can contribute in the progress of the nation as a whole and state of Uttarakhand in particular. awards to 55 First year and Second year students and 44 students of B.Tech third year and fourth year. The Chief Guest of the celebrations addressing the gathering, praised the achievements of the institution and the sincere attitude of the COER Management. Guest of Honour, Shri. U. C. Jain, Chairman, The Vardhman Developers expressed his satisfaction over the achievements of the institution and commented that nothing more could have been achieved what COER has achieved in this short span of time. Moreover, he stressed that more research based projects should be adopted for the up-liftment of education. Guest of Honour, Shri. Pramod Jain, CMD, Vardhman Electrical Appliances expressed the hope that COER will promote the nation in general in rendering quality education. He appreciated COER faculty members who have given 100% result in their subjects and gave them Faculty motivation awards. In the same regard, COER team members (faculty and staff) who have provided their services to this institute since last 10 years and 15 years, service recognition awards were distributed to them.

At the end, Mr. J. C. Jain Chairman COER and Mr. Subhash Jain, Secretary COER presented mementoes, as tokens of reverence to the Chief guest and Guests of Honour. The vote of thanks was offered by Mr. Subhash Jain, Secretary, COER. The function reached its formal close after the cultural programs performed by COERians.

2. Eco Kart- 2017 Virtuals

The student members of SAE INDIA-COER won the first position in the virtual round of the national event ECO-KART being organized by Hero Group at New Delhi. The competition was to design and fabricate a single passenger Kart which is operated via a battery. This is the 4th season of the competition known as Eco Kart 2017. The competition not only helps the students to build interest towards automobiles, but also helps them in incorporating team work and management skills within themselves.

4. Monthly Activities 1. Mr. Dhaneshwar and Mr. Mohit Mittal from CS/IT

department attended 3 days workshop on Phython in Infosys from 14th to 16th December, 2016.

2. Student from 3rd year, IT branch was selected by IFI Technology for internship.

3. Disha’ the Technical Committee CAT-COER aptitude test was conducted by DISHA, the technical committee. The event’s objective was to prepare 1st and 2nd year student for qualifying any examination or getting a good job in future. A mock exam was also conducted for 3rd and 4th year students before the CAT (Common Aptitude Test) exams.

4. Internal Faculty Development Program Internal Faculty Development Program known as foundation program was scheduled from 20th to 28th December. They were trained in C and Java. Six experts from CS/IT will train these faculties.

Maya Group of Colleges

1. De-addiction Workshop at Maya Group of Colleges

De-addiction workshop was organised by Uttarakhand Police at Maya Group of Colleges. The motive of this workshop was to make students aware of the effects of drug addiction. On this occasion, students presented a suit and conveyed a message to say ‘NO’ to Drugs. The Chairman Shri M.L. Juyal inspired the students and staffs to initiate campaign against De-addiction. Vice Chairman, Dr. Aashish Semwal, M.D. Smt. Tripti Juyal and Secretary Mr. Saurabh Juyal, students and staff members participated in the program.

2. Uttarakhand Police Marathon

Students of Maya Group of Colleges participated in the Uttarakhand Police Marathon which was organised at Police line on Dec. 11.

The students got certificate of participation and medals in 21 Km. Category.

3. Demonetisation and Importance of Plastic Money

It was indeed a matter of pride when the teachers, students and staff of Maya Group of Colleges visited the local markets of Selaqui and inspired people to participate in cashless economy revolution.

They made them aware of various cashless projects. This campaign was motivated and appreciated by the Vice Chairman Dr. Ashish Semwal, the M.D. Smt. Tripti Juyal and Secretary Mr. Saurabh Juyal.

Roorkee Institute of Technology

1. Final Cricket Match A final cricket match under the aegis of District Cricket Association was played between DCA (Gray) and DCA (Blue) at Roorkee Institute of Technology Puhana, Roorkee on 29 Dec. The match was found to be very interesting. DCA (Gray) won the toss and decided for batting. The batting was not so good. The whole team was out in 165 run in 30 overs. The highest score 47 run made by Mr Kush Bhatt, while Mr Aman Singh grabbed three wickets. Mr Aviral, Mr Yash Walia and Mr Kush got one wicket each. After the betting of DCA Blue, the team of DCA Grey came in field for batting the highest score 97/50 was made by Mr Gyandeep. Finally, the match was won by DCA Grey by 7 wickets.

Global Institute of Pharmaceutical Education and Research

Very recently students of Global Institute of Pharmaceutical Education and Research (GIPER), Kashipur participated and presented their research work in International Conference on Research Advances in Pharmaceutical and Chemical Sciences (RAPCS-2016) on 24-25 December, 2016, in Modinagar, Delhi NCR, India.

It was a big competition amongst participant. Honorable evaluators screened excellent presentation for GIPER students based on their incredible research.

Mr. Mohd Salman, M. Pharm. (Pharmaceutical Chemistry) 3rd semester student has been awarded for the 2nd prize on the basis of research entitled “Anticancer drug design”, Pragya Chaudhary, B. Pharm. 3rd year has been awarded 1st prize for the best poster presentation on “Why heart is rarely affected by cancer?” whereas Vijay Singh and Vipin Kumar, B. Pharm. 3rd year students jointly presented a crucial poster based on “H. pylori quorum sensing inhibition” and has been awarded 2nd prize. Their supervisor Associate Professor Dr. Sisir Nandi guided them and he also presented a plenary lecture on “Pharmacoinformatics: Applications in Drug Design”. Honorable chairman of the Institute Dr. A.K. Saxena, Emeritus Scientist CDRI was pleased and motivated young students, researchers and faculties.
