Govindaji was brought to the city of Amber,

near Jaipur, by Maharaja Jai Singh II toprotect the Deity from destruction at thehands of the Muslim emperor about 1728(some say 1735).

Maharaja Jai Singh created his "City of

Victory," the city of Jaipur, as a dedication toLord Govindaji. The temple is in a garden ofthe palace complex, and when the templedoors were opened, Maharaja Jai Singh in

the past could see his beloved Deity from theroyal quarters. Jai Singh's grandfather hadoriginally constructed the Govindaji Templein Vrindavan.
