1. Introduction of Sasaki Laboratory in the Coastal Engineering group Sasaki Lab is part of the Coastal Environment Group in the Department of Socio-Cultural Environmental Studies, Graduate School of Frontier Sciences at Kashiwa, and concurrently also belongs to the Hydrosphere and Environment Group in the Department of Civil Engineering. It was first set up in April 2013 by Prof. Masahiko Isobe (Currently, President of Kochi University of Technology). We have started studies on the protection of coasts and the sustainable development in vulnerable mangrove coastal areas in Thailand, Indonesia, Vietnam, the Philippines, etc., collaborating with students from Southeast Asian and South Asian countries. We have been carrying out field surveys on muddy tidal flats, enjoying collaboration with local people in very hot conditions.

3. Foreign students’ visit to Shibuya station under reconstruction (March 9) On March 9th, 13 foreign students visited Shibuya station, which is now being dramatically renovated. This is an annual event organized by the International Technical Exchange committee of JSCE. It was a valuable experience for students who are from cities which have no subways and allowed them to see the detailed scheduling and dense footpaths at the site.
