Helpful Hints for US Postal Service Applicants

The application process is part of a national system so it can be complex at times.

We will help you through the process!

If you need assistance, please refer to the eCareer Pocket Guide brochure for additional information, or

reach us by email: [email protected] or on our hotline 617-654-5632.

Getting Started

You will need to use a PC -- the application doesn’t work with a Mac, iPhone, or tablet;

You may use Internet Explorer 8.0 (or higher), Safari or Firefox as your browser;

You will need Adobe 7.0 (or higher) installed on your computer;

You will need a valid email address, in order to receive updates and feedback from USPS workers

during the application process.

Now, let’s get started on your candidate profile.

Creating your Candidate Profile through eCareer

o Create a username of at least 6 figures.

o Create a password of at least 15 figures, including one uppercase letter (A-Z), one lowercase

letter (a-z), one number and one symbol.

o Write down your username and password--you will need both later to access the USPS job

posting website.

o Employment history: please provide your job history over the past 5 years – it’s okay to list

periods of unemployment so there are no gaps in time.

o Please be aware that your Candidate Profile is not your USPS application. After submitting your

eCareer Profile, you can then visit the Job Opportunities page on our USPS website to start

searching & applying for jobs!

o Once your eCareer Profile has been submitted, you will receive an email with your candidate ID

number…write this number down! You will need this ID number in order to take your

assessment in the future.

So, you have successfully searched & applied for several USPS job postings on our website, using your

new eCareer Profile….what’s next?

Assessment Process

After applying for a position, you may be contacted to take an assessment test. This is to ensure

you can read addresses and postal codes correctly.

First there is an online assessment, and if you pass that, you will be invited to schedule an

appointment at one of our test centers for the second part of your assessment.

o Note: make sure you show up for the exam! Missing the test will require a 120-day

waiting period before you are able to retake the test.

The timeframes for the testing is important; if you cannot complete the assessments within the

dates they are scheduled, you will most likely have to reapply for a position.

Congratulations! You have successfully completed the USPS application process.

• After you apply for a position, if you receive

an email notification inviting you take an assessment you must follow the instructions and timeframes in which to complete the internet online assessment.

• If you pass the internet online assessment you

will be invited to schedule an appointment at one of our test centers to take the second part of the assessment. If invited to do so, you are encouraged to schedule your appointment immediately.

• If you do not complete the assessment and

proctored exam in the required timeframe, your application will be withdrawn and you will need to reapply.

• Reasons for not receiving notification that your

application was received. • You did not apply. You only created your Profile. • You did not completely finish your application.

Verify you have completed all sections & required fields and ensure you unlocked your profile.
