  • Using WinSCP Upload Files

There are many programs that transfer files between computers over the internet. One program used at CSI, and installed in all labs is WinSCP.

Click start button on the left bottom corner on your desktop and click WinSCP File Transfer in the listed menu

You will see the following window (Note : If you find all the blanks are grey and you cannot fill in the blanks or change it, please click “edit” button.)

Now fill out or change the host name to cslive.csi.cuny.edu

The User Name and Password is the one assigned you. Hit the enter key when all the information is entered.

You are now connected to a computer that is in a different location from where you are. This computer can be as close as the next room or as far away as another country. The computer you are connected to now is located on the second floor of the 1N building. And you will see the following window.

  • The left panel below shows the files on your local computer. The right panel shows the files and directories on the remote computer

Click on the My Documents folder on the right panel. This will display all the files in that folder in the right panel. If there are any files in this folder delete them.

We are now going to move our web pages onto this "other computer" called a web servor.

Using the right panel, navigate to the folder that contains your web page, named “My Documents” (Double click this folder to open it).

Select and drag the sample_files folder onto the right pane of the SCP file transfer screen. Do the same for the sample file.

  • Your SSH right pane should look like the above when finished.

To view your web page, open the web browser. The URL, or address of your web page is:

http://cslive.csi.cuny.edu/student###/ where ### substitutes for your assigned number.
