Using the Table of Content and Index to find information

An index is an alphabetical list

of persons, places, subjects, lo-

cated at the back of a book, and

indicating where in the book

those particular topics are re-

ferred to.

A table of contents is a list that

is placed at the beginning of

some books. It shows how the

book is divided into sections and

at which page each section be-

gins.

Practice: If you were going to use this book to find infor-

mation about violent video games and their effects on

children, what term (or terms) would you look up in the

index?
