UDS-1100 Configuration

Note: You will need to install the Lantronix DeviceInstaller software to configure the UDS-1100. Use the supplied CD.

Steps as follows:

1. Connect power to the UDS-1100 using the supplied AC Adaptor.

Using an RJ45 cable connect the Ethernet port on the UDS-1100 to the hub or switch being used by your computer. Make sure the green link light on the UDS-1100 is illuminated before proceeding

2. Run the DeviceInstaller software. You should see your network adaptor (Local Area Connection) shown in the navigator on the left.

3. Double-click on the Local Area Connection item to show the UDS connections.

4. Double-click on the UDS connections to show the specific adaptors found.

Note: If the adaptor does not show then check the power/RJ45 connections, otherwise the adaptor may already be configured with an IP. By default the units are configured for DHCP which means they should be assigned an IP when connected to the network your computer is on. See the last section for instructions on configuring units with an unknown or unreachable IP.

5. Click on the tab Web Configuration, then External Browser.

This will launch your default browser with the DHCP selected IP.

6. The login dialog will display, just press <ENTER> or click

the OK button to advance to the configuration screen, shown below.

7. Click on the Network option in the menu on the left to display the Network

Settings form. Note the Use the following IP configuration group. Select this option and then configure the appropriate IP Address, Subnet Mask and Default Gateway to match the network to which the UDS-1100 will be connected.

8. Click on the Channel 1 Serial Settings item and verify the settings shown below. These are the default settings. Configure the Protocol and Baud Rate according to the table shown below.

Device Protocol Baud Rate

Leica Total Station RS232 19200 CR2xx RS232 9600 CR800/CR1000 RS232 115200 CR800/CR1000 RS485 38400

9. Last step, click on the Apply Settings item shown in the menu on the left.

Lost or Unknown IP Configuration This section will provide instructions for configuring the UDS-1100 IP address where the existing address is unknown or in a different subnet so communication from the host device is not possible using the Lantronix DeviceInstaller software. You will need the AC Adaptor and the DB25 to DB9 serial cable that are supplied with the unit. Connect the serial cable to the serial port on your computer. Start Hyperterminal (usually found in the Accessories | Communications group), the first dialog will require you to configure a name for the connection. Use the baud rate in the Name for easier launch of Hyperterminal, as shown.

Press OK to advance to the Connect To dialog, select the appropriate COM port from the list of available ports. The example uses COM1.

Press OK to advance to the COM Properties dialog, Configure Bits per second of 9600, Data bits of 8, Parity = None, Stop bits = 1 and Flow control = None, as shown at right. Click OK to advance to the communications window. The port will be opened and available for communications after clicking OK. While holding the x key down (lower case), connect power to the UDS-1100. After a few seconds you should see the configuration screen as shown below. If the configuration screen doesn’t show after 15 seconds then disconnect power and repeat the sequence.

Press <ENTER> to go into Setup Mode. Note: You only have about 5 seconds to press <ENTER> otherwise the UDS-1100 will time out of configuration mode. After pressing <ENTER> the current settings followed by the Change Setup screen will display. You can use the scroll bar control on the right to back up the display and view the current configuration.

Enter 0 <ENTER> for Server configuration. You will then be prompted to enter the 4 octets, one at a time, for the IP Address. This is followed by the Set Gateway IP Address, default is N but press Y to configure and then enter the 4 octets one at a time as needed. Configure Netmask if needed, then Change telnet config password if necessary. The Change Setup menu will re-display, optionally the serial port settings can be configured using option 1 <ENTER>, otherwise select 9 <ENTER> to save the settings and exit. You should be able to run DeviceInstaller now and connect to the UDS-1100.
