• Provide strong leadership.• Ensure that teachers are effective and able to improve
instruction.• Redesign the day or school year to provide additional time for
student learning and teacher collaboration.• Ensure instructional program is research-based, rigorous, and
aligned with standards in order to meet the academic needs of all students.
• Use data to inform instruction and for continuous improvement and provide time for collaboration on the use of data.
• Improve school safety and discipline and other non-academic factors, such as students’ social, emotional, and health needs.

WHY INDISTAR®?

A concrete expression of a professional practice that research demonstrates contributes to student learning. An indicator is expressed in plain language so that a school team can answer with certainty whether or not it is standard practice in the school.
DEFINITION OF AN INDICATOR OF EFFECTIVE PRACTICE
•A Leadership Team consisting of the principal, teachers who lead instructional teams, and other key professional staff meets regularly (twice a month or more for an hour each meeting.•Teachers are organized into grade-level, grade-level cluster, or subject-area instructional teams.•Professional development includes an emphasis on indicators of effective teaching.•Units of instruction include standards-based objectives and criteria for mastery.
