Tutorial Getting Started with the BJAC Property Package

  • Property Data - Step by Step Guide

    1. Complete the Process Data Section

    2. Complete the Hot/Cold Stream Compositions Section

  • Property Data Complete the Hot/Cold Stream Compositions Section

    1. Select the B-JAC Property Package from the Physical Property Package pull down

    a) Aspen Properties is the Aspen preferred package

    b) Use COMThermo to maintain consistency with the heritage Hyprotech products

    Hyprotech products

    c) Use B-JAC for special single phase mixtures

    d) Use one of the User Specified Properties options when not retrieving properties from any of the Aspen packages

    2. Click on the Search Databankbutton to continue

  • Property Data Complete the Hot/Cold Stream Compositions Section

    1. There are a number of liquid only mixtures found in the B-JAC package such as SAE, Lube, & API oils, or other mixtures such as glycols where transport properties have been curve fit and are sometimes more accurate than what is calculated from the preferred Aspen

from the preferred Aspen Properties package

    2. Build your compound list

    a) Complete steps 1-3 until all compounds have been found

    3. Click on the OK button when all compounds have been added

  • Property Data Complete the Hot/Cold Stream Compositions Section

    1. Use the composition specification pull down to specify mole or weight percents

    2. Specify the desired compositions

    3. When creating various strength solutions not

strength solutions not specifically found in the databank, it is preferred to create the mixture from pre-defined solutions as opposed to using pure water with the pure compound as in this 45 wt% solution of ethylene glycol

  • Property Data Get Properties for the Hot/Cold Stream Section

    1. The program defaults will be set by the program for the following and are normally adequate:1. Temperature range = terminal

    temperatures

    2. 1st pressure = operating pressure

    3. 2nd pressure = operating pressure estimated pressure drop

    estimated pressure drop

    4. Number of points = determined by temperature range

    2. Program defaults may be changed by the user

    3. Click on the Get Properties button to obtain properties

  • Property Data Get Properties for the Hot/Cold Stream Section

    1. Individual pressure sets can be deleted by highlighting the desired pressure and clicking on the Delete Set button

    a) It is normally not necessary to use 2 pressure levels for a liquid no phase change application

    2. The property table can be rearranged

2011 Aspen Technology, Inc. All rights reserved | 8

    2. The property table can be rearranged with the Pivot Table button

    3. Any of the properties in the table can be changed by the user once the Overwrite Properties box has been checked

  • Property Data Get Properties for the Hot/Cold Stream Section

    1. You can ignore the Warning 105 that properties for the stream are liquid only for liquid no phase change applications

    2. Properties should be checked for accuracy for Warning 1121 when properties are outside expected range
