Andrew McCauley:This is podcast number 35. In today's podcast you're going tolearn why images are so important to use in online marketing, we're going to talkabout where you can use these images to get the best results and what tools youcan use to create and edit your own images.

Have you picked up our online survival guide yet? et prepped !or the !uture o!online marketing, by going to www.aybguide.com

Andrew McCauley:Hey everybody this is "ndrew #c$auley. %elcome to podcastnumber 35. This is our picture show& It's all about pictures and images, and todayall the way !rom sunny ydney we have the lovely Heather (orter.

Heather Porter:Hey "ndrew& Hey guys& "nd yep, sunny and a little bit chilly, still

as we're still in winter over here in good old "ustralia. o, here we are on our, as"ndrew said, our photo or image episode. %hy did we choose this, "ndrew? %hy

    have we chosen this topic?

Andrew McCauley:%ell, I tell you, we've been digging our content machine into

a couple o! new things lately, Instagram and (interest and a whole range o! otherimage related stu!! so we thought that, let's go and share what we're !inding, whyimages are becoming so important in this world that we live in, particularly online, and let's talk about that. )et's talk about why it's important, how to go and !ind theimages, how to go and make them look good, how to make sure they're uni*ueand all that sort o! stu!!. o we thought, let's share it with the people on ourpodcast.

Heather Porter:+abulous& "nd you know what? e!ore we get started I want toshare something that I learned. %hat do you think about that?

Andrew McCauley:-cellent. I think you should do that.

Heather Porter:/laughs0 1kay, cool. +or those o! you that have been listening tous !or a little while, "ndrew and I like to 2ump in and do this because, you know,

we catch up all the time that it's nice to hear what we both learned over the lastweek. o, I have learned, and this is a great product that we've been using a lot

called )ead (ages. "nd )ead (ages is basically a very easy to use tool to createyour own landing pages where people can opt in !or things like !ree reports, theycan sign up !or webinars, they can, you know, you name it. It's a very easy, beauti!ul way o! creating *uick and easy pages !or your website.

"nd I've learn that, I 2ust, I think I pumped out about three or !our o! these in the

last week !or various clients and ourselves and what I love about it is there's apage in there that is a welcome gate that you can use on your website !or !irst timevisitors. o basically what happens is, say you guys have a webinar that you'repromoting or a special new report or an upcoming event or e$ourse, you canactually put a page on the home page o! your website that says, ign up now andget this thing !or !ree or 4o thanks, take me straight into the website.

"nd it's a really cool little tool and very easy to set, and again it is called )ead(ages !or those o! you guys that interested, and the big why behind that is, o!course, !irst time visitor to your website chances are that they'll never come backis, you know, pretty probable these days so grab their details when you can onthat !irst visit. %hat about you "ndrew? I mean I know you've been using )ead

(ages as well a lot, what do you think about it?

Andrew McCauley:8eah, you know I love )ead (ages. )ike you, I'm using itevery week, probably creating 3 or 9 di!!erent landing pages every single week, and one o! the things I do like about it is the guys at )ead (ages, their support isawesome. $lay $ollins who's one o! the guys involved is such a really nice guy.

Heather Porter:He's very, very into his marketing and he 2ust loves helpingmarketers or businesses, you know, make that transition to start growing their list, and one o! the things I do like about )ead (ages is that, nearly every week I go inthere they've got a new template, they're creating templates all the time, they look

at who's making templates out there and what's working and using that stu!! that'sworking and bring it onto their own templates, so it's pretty cool and it's always

changing and evolving so that's what I love about using those guys. It's very, avery cool tool. 4ow, I'm going to tell you what I learned and it's almost piggybacking a little bit on that.

    Andrew McCauley:ood&

Heather Porter:ut I actually took some7 I went up to :egas last week and Iwent to an epo, one o! their clients had a stall there at an epo, and what I

learned was, it was a bit o! an o!!line learning actually, is that so many people atthese epos don't use lead generation at all. They have all this captive audience in

!ront o! them and it sort o! reminded me a bit o! that websites because this epowas !or wood workers and !urniture markers so, not my cup o! tea, but7 so I

actually was about to look at it rather than a starry7eyed boy at an epo that Iliked to go to. I looked at it !rom a completely di!!erent angle and how each o!these booths were interacting with their customers or not and what sort o! thingsthey were doing to attract attention to their booth and so many o! them, ninety

something percent o! them were 2ust sitting there, lot o! the people behind thebooths were sitting on their mobile phones or 2ust teting or looking or playing%ords %ith +riends or something and they weren't interacting with the clients thatwere walking past and some o! these people could have been their best prospect or

their best customers, yet nothing was done, there was no lead generation strategybehind it.

1! course, ecept !rom the one we're working with who's 2ust killing them with leadgeneration sort o! stu!! that we put in a whole bunch o! systems be!ore the event,

we know what we had to do. o it helped him implement them and that's why Iwent up there, but one o! the strategies I was using was )ead (ages7 eactly that

so, you know, I was able to7 this is what I like about )ead (ages. %e're there inthe morning, at lunch time our client said, Hey, let's change a !ew things, do you

think we can whip up a site like this?

4ow, si months ago it would have taken us a couple o! days !or us to whip up a

site, but I was able to go back to my hotel room, get on my internet, whip acompletely brand new site !or him, and he was blown away. He said, How'd you

do that so !ast?, and, o! course, I didn't tell him because it would ruin my secretbut it was 2ust something that I can whip up real *uick, move with the times as itwas going, like that was an instantaneous re*uest that he needed and we were Iable to deliver something that he wanted via )ead (ages so that he could startcollecting leads and names and addresses while he was at the epo talking topeople. It was awesome sort o! stu!! to use so, my biggest learning was that so

many people waste opportunities out there whether it's online or o!!line and have a

look at your business and see where you're possibly wasting time and wastingopportunities as well.

Heather Porter::ery good learning, and !or those o! you guys who are interestedin )ead (ages you can 2ump on over to leadpages.net and $lay $ollins, the creator,he has some great little videos as well on 8ouTube, as well, that we love that giveyou ideas on how to use these landing pages as well, so we highly recommend that

you check them out. o, "ndrew, let's get it stuck into the whole images andphotos episode.

Andrew McCauley:)et's do it, let's do it. o, let's start with some o! the whys.)ike, why are images so important on online marketing? )ike, give us a run down,

what is your take on why you think images are so important these days?

Heather Porter:8eah sure, look I7 well we know we've talk about this in pastepisodes about bounce rates and keeping people on your website longer, andanytime you have a blog post or an article or a page on your site that has

multimedia, which includes images, chances are people are going to stay around alittle bit longer to check it out, plus also it's been proven that people click on

images more than they click on 2ust say a tet link. o images are very importantto lead people though your website, get them clicking and engaging with your

content as well, and that's 2ust on your website.

o, what about social media? o it's also proven on, say +acebook, and "ndrew will

do some things on (interest in a second, but +acebook, you know, with the wholetimeline that's there the most engaged with posts o! course, surprise surprise,

those with the images because with a !antastic image, people are more likely toalso share those images on their own wall. ut yeah, tell us a little bit about(interest, that's huge.

Andrew McCauley:%ell, you know, this is7 I got a couple steps I'm going to

share with you in a !ew minutes, but what's happened in the last, probably two orthree years, (interest came along, we call it the (interest -!!ect they came alongand everything was7 (interest is almost like Twitter and we heard about (interestlast week with )aura7 (interest is like the Twitter !or pictures so people startedlooking at pictures and then getting engaged and they always have been, wealways you know, we hear this story 'pictures worth a thousand words', but when(interest came along and suddenly there was a big uptake in interest in images.

Then you look at things like +acebook where they overhaul their entire timeline sothat it was very, very photocentric i! you like. Twitter came along, Twitter was atet based plat!orm !or so long and then it said, 8ou know what? )et's start usingimages. )et's start including videos in our tweets. o now you can watch videos

and images inside Twitter because they understood the power o! these images.

"nd then you've got things like Instagram where +acebook paid a billion dollars tobuy Instagram. 4ow wouldn't you like to be having a small share in that, but theypaid a billion dollars to take up Instagram because they knew the power o! whatInstagram was creating, and i! you're not using Instagram at all and you're not

using (interest, have a think about why you're not using it and start thinking that, how else can you use it. In today;s little show we want to talk about how you can

start !inding images and how you can start making them uni*ue as well.

Heather Porter:"bsolutely, and on that note about (interest as well, !or those o!you guys who had 2ust 2oined in us now, hop on back to episode number 39. %einterviewed )aura %aage on (interest and she had some ama

Andrew McCauley:8eah, and one o! the, I think, one o! the reasons why there'sso much growth right now is that, everyone now has a super, super camera in theirpockets. There are all these smart phones that have these super awesome cameraslike, these cameras are so much better than they were ten years that people now

have so much more to take photos with, they've got something in their hand theyare always using it and there is photos upon photos out there that everyone's got

now. o that's a big !actor in driving this whole entire image cra

    Heather Porter:ood in!ormation. ut I...

Andrew McCauley:I hadn't thought a bunch about that as !ar as the productimage goes but yeah, you're probably right. I! it's a good *uality image.

Heather Porter: It is, don't skip on the *uality. "nd then the last one is,

-ngagement rate on +acebook !or photos averages A.3B@ where tet only isA.GB@ Ethis translates to a 3B@ higher level o! engagement !or photos over tetThere you go.

    Andrew McCauley:That's huge.

    Heather Porter:That's proo!.

Andrew McCauley:8ou know, I think actually +acebook is the biggest photosharing site that's around now. 8eah, it beats +lickr. I think +lickr is the second

biggest one and +acebook is the biggest one by a mile.

Heather Porter:8eah, I'm not surprised... o let's talk a little bit about photos.o, where can somebody actually get a photo? ecause we're going to go into whatyou can do to these photos, the tools you can use to change them, and be!ore, Iguess, we start that I'm 2ust going to bring up the very, very important point thatnow more than ever, whenever you're using photos in your marketing online youwant to have that photo be completely original. It really should be your image, your words, your look and !eel because in the search engines they're actuallygiving more weight to, you know, your own original content, that includes your

images as well, so that's why we're going tell you where you can get images butmore importantly, what you can do to doctor them and make them your own.

Andrew McCauley:Hey, can I give you a *uick tip?

    Heather Porter:"bsolutely.

Andrew McCauley:o many people go to oogle Images right? They'll type in,let's say 'puppy dog' and they'll go to oogle Images, they'll look !or puppy dog

image and they'll right click and they'll save it as the image that's there on oogleand they'll download it to their blog... and they'll talk about that particular imageor add that image to their blog.

4ow, one o! the things you've got to be care!ul o!, as you 2ust said, is that oogle

knows that that image has been used be!ore. "nd there's an easy way !or you to!ind out where this image has been used be!ore and that is drag the image, when

you go to oogle Images, drag that image into the search bar and what willhappen is pretty cool. rag it into the search bar and it'll give you a list o! all o! thesites that that image actually appears on.

Heather Porter:It is pretty cool, I've done that too.

Andrew McCauley:8eah, so i! you've got a photo o! you type your name in, 2usttry this at home, type your own name in the image section o! oogle and then

drag the photo into the search bar and see what websites that images appears on.It's *uite !ascinating how oogle knows all this sort o! stu!!. o, you de!initely need

to be care!ul about what images you are using.

Heather Porter:1ne more tip on that too, you can also use a website called

Tin-ye.com. "nd you can !ind out where else your photos are being used that way,as well.

    Andrew McCauley:8es.

Heather Porter:o, images. %here can somebody get an image to start with inthe !irst place?

Andrew McCauley:%ell apart !rom original images straight out o! your phone or

your camera, there's places like itockphoto, there's +lickr as we said, there'shutterstock which is7 now let's talk through hutterstock 'cause we usehutterstock a bit. Tell people what the di!!erence is between the !ree images andthe paid images and how they can go about purchasing images and why they'd dothat.

Heather Porter: o basically, as a business you want to protect all your

marketing collateral and you want to own the rights to be using it. o, thesewebsites like hutterstock, !or eample, allow you to go and buy the rights to use

an image. "nd so, these are put in there by various photographers all over theworld and illustrators and when you're purchasing the image you're basicallysaying, yep, I agree to the terms and I'm going to use either on my website or youknow, you can even buy images to use in T:, ad campaigns i! you want, as well. It

2ust gives you the right7 it makes you know that, you know, as a con!identbusiness person and somebody who has a serious business, that you're looking

a!ter your collateral and that you have !ull rights to use it.

Andrew McCauley:8eah... 8eah good, so, how much does an image cost? )ike, give us a ballpark !igure.

Heather Porter:They range. 8eah, look I like hutterstock a lot 2ust because I!ind that it's *uite inepensive. %hat happens is you go in, you can do search !or

say, pretty woman or you know, child with red balloon, whatever you want to !ind."nd, all these results will come up and then you have various options o! downloadsi

Andrew McCauley:>ight, okay. ood, so let's talk about some o! the tools thatwe use. %hat's your !avorite one?

    Heather Porter:%ell, I'm such a nerd. I don't actually use these because I use(hotoshop, which I'll talk about.

Andrew McCauley:That's a tool but it's not an online tool, right? It's 2ust a tool...

Heather Porter:4o, it's not an online tool.

Andrew McCauley:... that you got to pay some money !or.

Heather Porter:-actly, and it's advanced, you know. ut what I'm loving 2ust

because prepping !or this podcast !or you guys, "ndrew was showing all theseama)s we've been

using in this episode on our website autopilotyourbuisness.com6podcast. 8ou'll beable to !ind them in the resource page and also in the podcast number 35 itsel!.

Andrew McCauley:o, (ic#onkey is something that we use !airly regularly, wedo a lot o! our images !or the podcasts, we'll run them through (ic#onkey, we'll

add some borders to them, we'll add some shades, some colorations or saturation,we'll change bits and pieces around and then we'll add some cool, !unky tet at the

top as well so then it becomes a uni*ue, original image. (ic#onkey has a !ree

version and there's also a version that, I think it's around thirty three dollars !orthe year and it gives you a whole range o! etra !onts and cool !eatures and toolsthat you can add to your images. o, we like to use (ic#onkey.

The other one that is out there is called (ilr.com and that's7 i! you're pretty handyon (hotoshop or you're handy on imp, imp is another tool that7 it's a !ree tool

that you can download to your computer. Though it sits on your computer, theseones are all online based, but (ilr is a little bit like imp where you can put awhole range o!7 I'm trying to think o! the word now my ticky brain is gone...)ayers& )ayers is what I'm trying to say. ut all that sort o! stu!! on there you can7it does similar to what (ic#onkey does, it's 2ust di!!erent, di!!erent lay out and eachone o! these, you're not going to have to use all o! them by the way, 2ust pick onethat you like and stick to it. o, (ilr is a good one that a lot o! people use,

probably one o! these biggest ones that are out there.

Then we've got another one called (hotogramio I personally like this one, I thinkit's very easy to use, there's not a lot o! bells and whistles but !or what I want todo it does a really *uick 2ob. "t (hotogramio.com, you don't have to sign up, youdon't have to log in, you 2ust load your picture up, change it around and then it

saves it back to your hard drive.

    Heather Porter:That's great.

Andrew McCauley:I love it because it's very simple, very *uick and no stu!!ingaround... "nd then one o! the other ones that I've been using !or a very long timeactually is (ic >esi

online stu!! obviously, so things like (hotoshop would be, you know, much moreadvanced where, as "ndrew was saying, you have layers and it allows you to evenprep artwork !or print, as well, so...

ut, you know, I think nowadays with what's happening with online, you canhonestly do everything you need to do on these programs we 2ust talked about. I!you're looking to print images that's a whole other episode and then you wouldneed a tool more like (hotoshop, but !or online stick with the online programs wetalked about.

Andrew McCauley:4ow, i! you don't want to use any o! these tools, what's thenet option?

Heather Porter:"s !ar as, are we talking imp or are we talking another option?

Andrew McCauley:I'm talking, we could get a +iverr right? ecause that leadsme to our +iverr gig o! the week. I'm going to go, I want you to check this out,we're going to go get a (hotoshopped image, I'm not sure, either (hotoshopped or

one o! these tools. I'll make it something cool, something about our podcast, Ithink. 4ot sure what I'll do but I'm going to !ind someone, I'm going to put a +iverrgig o! the week here all about this particular topic, so check out the results on the7where are we putting this on? 1n the resource page or on the actual blog page?

Heather Porter:%e're going to put it on the actual blog page so, episode number35 on the website autopilotyourbuisness.com6podcast. o on over to episode 35 tosee our results.

Andrew McCauley:$heck that out, check out our results. "lright H, I think we

better wrap this up, I think we've covered pictures and images a !air amount, isthere anything you want to add be!ore we wrap this up?

Heather Porter:4o, look, I think guys the key thing to think about here is thatyou know images work, we've given you the stats and it's best to make the images

your own images. o your own tet, your own idea, your own !ilters, withnowadays with incredible photography tools we have 2ust in our martphones, start

snapping some really cool images around your o!!ice, around your house, aroundyour, you know, nature and think about how you can incorporate these into yourbusiness to get engagement in all your social media and what you do. It's veryeasy, so much easier than you could have ever imagined a !ew years ago.

Andrew McCauley:"lright, shout outs, we've got any shout outs? %hat shout out

do we have? o you have any shout outs, H? I've got a couple here.Heather Porter:I do, I actually wanted do a shout out to a couple o! countries,

2ust in the last week or so we've picked up so new subscribers or listeners !rom the

countries o! #eico, +inland and +rance. o, thanks you guys so much !or 2umpingon, we appreciate you listening, it's very cool.

Andrew McCauley: "wesome, I !ound a couple o! people have le!t !ive starreviews !or us, ebe. ebe has le!t a review !or us. emack has also le!t, and
