Use New Data To Enable MLGW Processes & Systems

• Future Service Visits

– Data and pics available in back office prior to site visit/work

• Customer Complaint Management

– Validate the jobsite at completion of work

• Geographic Information System (GIS)

– Meter Points added automatically to ArcGIS/ArcFM

• Customer Information System (CIS)

– Interface to CIS to pass back coordinate information and track

completion progress

Short Timeframe

• November 2013 – Targeted Project Start

• January 2014 – Ready for Production Pilot

MLGW Evaluated Several Different Solutions

• Originally Looking at non-GIS solutions

– Required New Licensing + Implementation

• MLGW GIS/FIS Team Was Consulted

– Existing Esri ELA for Licensing

– Enterprise Esri Implementation Recently

Completed with ArcSDE and ArcGIS Server

already in place

MLGW GIS Team Asked SSP for Options

• SSP was just wrapping up a 5 year GIS conversion / rollout

• Implemented Enterprise Solution

• Familiar with MLGW Team and Processes

• ArcGIS Online Expertise at Other Utility Customers

Esri Solution Offered:

• Leverage Existing Investment in Esri GIS Technology

• Licenses covered by ELA

• Allows for a very quick implementation

MLGW IT Dept. Had Stringent Requirements

• Would not open outside ports to internal servers

• Would not host data in the cloud

• Had a complex DMZ (pretty locked down for a DMZ)

• Did not want authoritative GIS data available via internet
