    2.1Altimeterandairpressure2.1.1Howdoesanaltimeterwork?Abarometricaltimetercalculatesaltitudefromthepresentairpressureoftheatmosphere.Airpressurewilldecreaseatincreasingheight.Duetothefactthatairmaybecompressed,thepressuredecreaseisnotlinear,butindeedexponential.Thebasisforaltitudecalculationinaviationisaninternationalformulawhichdefinesastandardatmosphere.IntheCINA-Standardatmospherethebasicpressureonsealevelis1013,25hPa(Hektopascal)atatemperatureof15C.Furthermoreitdefinesacontinuoustemperaturedecreaseatincreasingheightof0,65Cper100mascent.Thereforeisbinding:abarometricaviationaltimeterdisplaystheprecisealtitudeonlyifweatherconditionsareinexactaccordancetothestandardatmosphere.Inpractice,suchanalogueyismorelikelytobetheexception!

    Airweightandpressurearestronglyinfluencedbyairtemperature.Iftemperaturedeviatesfromstandardatmosphere,thedisplayofaltitudecalculatedaspertheinternationalformulaisnolongercorrect.Thealtimeterdisplaysduringsummer,whentemperaturesarehigher,indeedaltitudeparameterswhicharetoolow,andduringwintertimeitisexactlythecontrary!Flyingatlowertemperaturesiseffectivelydoneatloweraltitude,andathighertemperaturesflightaltitudeishigherthanthealtimeterdisplays!Thedeviationof1Cper1000heightmetersinducesapprox.4merror.(Thisempiricalformulaisvalidforupto4000m!)

    Ifyouareflyingduringsummerthrough2000heightmetersinanairmassbeingtoowarmby16Ccomparedtostandardatmosphere,thealtimeterwillthendisplay2x4x16=128mdifferenceinaltitudebelowrealheight!Basedupontheinternationallydeterminedaltitudecalculationwithstandardvalues,thisdisplayerrorcausedbyairtemperatureshallnotberectifiedbytheinstrument.

    Airpressurechangesinrelationtoweatherconditions.Inordertocompensatef

    3.4.1CreatingaRouteWithMainSetupMenu.RoutesaccessisgiventothelistofstoredRoutes.(max.20Routes).Withinthislistonecanselectbyuseofthearrowkeysor^oneoftheRoutes,orbypressingtheF1key(Ins.Route)anewRoutecanbecreated.AfterpressingtheF1key(Ins.Route)atfirstanamehastobeenteredforthenewRoute.Thecursorwillblinkonthe1stletteroftheword"Xxxxx".Witharrowkeys^oritisaltereduptothedesiredletter.Byuseofthe>arrowkeyoneproceedstothe2ndletter,altersit,andsoforth.BypressingtheOKkeythedataentryoftheRoutesnameiscompleted.AtthispointtheindividualWaypointsneedtobeinsertedintotheRoute.AfterpressingtheF1key(Ins.Wayp.)thelistofavailableWaypointswillappearinthebottomhalfofthereadoutscreeninalphabeticalorder.Atthesametimeoneshallseetherequest:"SelectWaypointNo1".Againbyusingthe^orarrowkeysthe1stWaypointisselectedandisaddedtotheRoutebypressingtheOKkey.Thisisindicatedintheupperhalfofthescreen.BypressingtheF1key

    5.1.1FlightlogbookandFlight-AnalysispageTherecordingmodedoesnotneedtobespecificallyactivated,aseachflightisautomaticallysaved.TheflightmemoryusedontheFLYTEC6040GPSnotonlyrecordsflightaltitudeandflightspeed(TAS),butitalsologsthepositionofthepilotandtheGPS-altitudeintheWGS84-coordinatesystem.InMainSetupMenu.UserSettings.Flightmemory.Record.Intervalstherecordingintervalscanbeset.Theselectedvaluedeterminesthetimeintervalinseconds,accordingtowhichanewdatasetisenteredintothememoryoftheFLYTEC6030GPS.Minimumvalueis2seconds,whichcorrespondstoarecordingtimeofapprox.9hours.Atthemaximumvalueof60sintervaltherecordingtimewilladduptoapprox.291hours.

    11.1AltimeterAnaltimeterisreallyabarographbecauseitdoesntdirectlymeasurealtitude,butairpressure.Altitudeisthencalculatedfromairpressure.Thepressureatsealevelisusedaszeropointheightforthecalculationofabsolutealtitude(accordingtotheinternationalheightformula).

    Whydoespressurechangewithheight?Pressureatanygivenpointontheearthiscreatedbytheweightofairintheatmosphereaboveit.Therefore,pressurereduceswithheightthereislessairaboveyourhead!Achangeinpressureof1mbar(mb)at500metresabovesealevelisaheightdifferenceofabout8metres.
