Transcript of User-generated content - '#setherfree'. Charity content marketing conference, 28 April 2016
Women for Refugee Women
Women for Refugee Women challenges the injustices experienced by women who cross borders to seek safety. We work in three ways:
• We work at the grassroots to support and empower women who are seeking asylum
• We work with the arts, media and public events to tell women’s stories
• And, by publishing research and informing politicians, we try to create a fairer asylum process
#SetHerFree
We launched the Set Her Free campaign in January 2014, calling for an end to the detention of women who seek asylum in the UK.
• 6,000 women come to UK each year to seek asylum in own right
• 2,000 asylum-seeking women detained each year
• Majority of women held in Yarl’s Wooddetention centre, near Bedford

Our focus since September has been campaigning against the detention of pregnant women, following HMIP’s report in August.
99 pregnant women were detained in Yarl’sWood in 2014. To highlight this, we invited 99 inspiring women to write a message of support and solidarity, ahead of International Women’s Day – 8 March 2016.
