SUGGESTIONS AND ADVICE RE GARDING THE MAINTENANCE OF THE BATTERY

To guarantee a maximum life cycle of the battery, the following instructions must be carried out:• The battery charger remains inactive

below 0°C and above +60°C. Switch on the battery charger preferably at an ambient temperature.

• The battery charger is controlled by a microcomputer equipped with multi-ple control and monitoring functions.

• The battery charger automatically interrupts the charging process when the battery is completely charged.

This means that the so-called autodi-scharge* of the battery are not compen-sated. The battery therefore does not go into overload.

WARNING:• Never leave the battery on charge

for long periods of inactivity.• Keep the unused battery charged

(e.g., during the winter period) and in a dry place.

• Recharge every two months, even if the bicycle is not being used.• Never leave the battery completely

discharged.

WARNING:The inobservance of this instruction could lead to the complete discharge of the battery.A completely discharged battery might not maintain the recharge.Never completely discharge the battery; this will help to increase the life cycle of the battery.

NOTE:*autodischargeDue to the chemical processes inside the sealed compartments, the battery autodischarges on the basis of the charging period and the environmental conditions (temperature and humidity). This translates into a brief journey via electric motor propulsion.

ADJUSTMENT OF THE SADDLE

The saddle can be adjusted for height and tilt angle. To adjust the height of the saddle pro ceed as follows:

• Slacken the locknut (3)• Choose the required height

and tighten the locknut.• The locknut (3) must be tightened

using signifi cant pressure.

WARNING:The saddle can be raised to the maxi-mum of the mark (4) indicated on the stem. Any higher than that the stem co-mes out of its seat.

To adjust the tilt angle of the saddle pro-ceed as follows:

• Slacken the screw (5).• Position the saddle in the requi-

red horizontal position, shifting it backwards and forwards and tilting it as required.

• Tighten the screw (5).

ATTENTION:

Danger of falling and accidents. The presence of oil and grease on the brake discs reduces the braking action and gives rise to dangerous riding situa-tions, falls and accidents.• Dirty brake discs must be cleaned

immediately.• Using your hands, pull the brake

pincers alternately in all directions. The brake pincers should not move.

• At a standstill, operate the corresponding brake lever and keep it pressed. The compression point must not change.

• Visually check the braking system starting with the lever and continu-ing with the cables and then brakes.

• Check that the brake disc is not damaged. It should free of notches, breakages, deep scratches and other mechanical damage.

• First, lift up the front wheel and then the rear wheel and spin the wheel with your hand. The rotation of the brake disc should be smooth and clean.

ATTENTION:Danger of falling and accidents. A too energetic action of the brake can lock the wheels and cause the rider to fall off the bicycle. • Familiarise yourself with the action

of the brakes. Start pedalling slowly and operate the brake levers with moderation.

• Carry out these braking exercises on level ground where there is no traffic. • Gently operate the brakes simulta- neously using the two levers.

NOTE:The disc brakes develop full braking ac-tion after a certain “running-in phase”. The general rule is as follows:• The brakes are considered to be

“run-in” after approximately 30 complete short braking actions from a speed of approximately 20 km/h.

• Avoid travelling long distances until the braking system has been “run- in”.

Once the braking system has been “run-in” you will have a very strong braking force. A too ener-getic action of the brake lever can cause the wheels to lock.

Approximately 65% of the total braking force is obtained from the front brake. The maximum braking performance is obtained by simultaneously operating the two brake levers.

ADJUSTMENT OF THE CHAIN The chain must be correctly tensioned and rotate freely without being slack or stiff. • The correct adjustment is made by

slackening the locknuts (C) of the rear wheel. Position yourself behind the vehicle, put the chain under ten-sion and check that the chain has approximately 5mm/10mm of slack in the middle, between the crank wheel and the sprocket.

• Tighten the locknuts (C) when the adjustment has been made.

WASHING AND LUBRICATION OF THE CHAIN

Ask another person to lift the rear wheel so that it does not come into contact with the floor. • Slowly turn the crank wheel in the

drive direction. • Pour a few drops of chain detergent

on a clean lint-free cotton cloth and rub the chain.

• Repeat the operation with a clean part of the cotton cloth until the chain is clean.

• Apply a small quantity of appropriate lubricant on the chain joints.

5-10 mm NOTE:If detergent residues are still between the links of the chain, the new lubricant will lose its properties and consequently its effectiveness.

ATTENTION:

Danger of falling and accidents. If an excessive quantity of lubricant is used, or an inadequate lubricant, drops of lubricant could drip onto the brake disc and make it dirty, thereby notably re-ducing the effectiveness of the braking. • Remove the excess lubricant from

the chain using a dry, lint-free, cle-an cotton cloth.

• Clean the wheel rim and the brake disc with a suitable degreaser. • Consult your trusted retailer.

NOTE:Lubricant destined for chains of mo-torcycles cause bicycle chains and transmission components to jam up. Utilise only lubricants that are expressly indicated for bicycle chains.

• Manually clean residual dirt with a lint-free, clean cotton cloth and utilising a suitable detergent.

• Spray the complete chain with an adequate wax spray or a similar protective product.

ATTENTION:Danger of falling and accidentsThe presence of wax spray or other protective products on the brake discs notably reduces the effectiveness of the braking.Clean the brake discs with a suitable de greaser. Consult your trusted retailer. These components must not be treated with protective products:• Brake discs.• Handgrips, brake levers and the

gearchange.• Saddle.• Tyres.

TSWASHING THE ELECTRIC BICYCLE

ATTENTION:Before starting any job, remove the starter key so that the motor is defi nitely switched off.

ATTENTION:Lack of care and cleaning can cause dangerous riding situations, falls and accidents. Take care of your bicycle as described in the following instructions.

ATTENTION:Corrosion that attacks even stainless steel parts can cause serious damage to safety components of the bicycle that in some cases causes the breakage of parts whilst riding. The consequence could be a serious fall. Corrosion forms, amongst other things, by the effect of salt. For example, with the salty air near the coast or with the road salt during winter caused by a corrosive atmosphere; for example in industrial areas.

Protect your bicycle from contact with corrosive substances by utilising a wax spray or a similar protective product.

ATTENTION:Do not use jets of vapour/high pressure spray cleaners for washing the bicycle. A strong jet of water can damage your bicycle or give rise to a short circuit (possibility of fi re).

NOTE:Correct maintenance increases the life cycle of your bicycle and its components. Use only delicate sprays of water or a bucket of water and a sponge to wash the bicycle. Only use clean fresh water or desalina ted water. Never use salt water (e.g., sea water).

NOTE:With many detergents and when the bicycle is a little bit dirty, it is sufficient just to spray the product and rinse after leaving it to react for the prescribed time. Obstinate dirt can be removed using a radiator brush or a similar brush before rinsing.

NOTE:Detergents, lubricants and protective products are chemical products. Some of these products can damage your bicycle. • Utilise only products developed

appropriately for bicycles. • Ensure that the products do not

attack paintwork or parts in rubber, plastic, metal, etc. Refer to your trusted retailer.

• Scrupulously follow the instructions of the manufacturers.

TS MAINTENANCE OF THE PARTS IN

LEATHER

Keeping the parts in leather or hide in good condition is very simple. Dust them frequently with a soft brush or a cloth and remember to wax them every now and again.Above all, they need to be constantly hydrated to keep them soft and shiny. Do not use coloured protective creams that might mark the leather. Use neutral wax. Apply a neutral wax with a dry and soft cloth over the surface to be treated, rubbing in the wax so as to penetrate the leather. To keep the leather in good condition, repeat this operation every two or three weeks or at least every time the leather seems dull and opaque.

NOTE:Any scratches or marks can be treated by using a coloured product of the same tint.To treat ink spots or other types of marks, use special anti-stain products available on the market or dab the zone involved with a specific cleaning fluid.

Test the product on a small corner of the zone to check the effects.Milk and leatherTo stop the leather from splitting and before using the neutral wax, treat the skin by soaking a cotton wool ball in milk. The leather will soften and hydrate.

Page 44: User and maintenance manual. Warranty. - Italjet · This manual is designed to be used in accordance with Ascot Classic, Ascot Sport and Ascot One. ITALJET SpA via dell’Agricoltura,

1. Lithium ion rechargeable batteries have a lifecycle and gradually lose their ability to hold a charge. This loss of capacity (aging) is irreversible. This loss of capacity, therefore, will result in a gradual reduction of autonomy.

2. The user is obliged to respect the follow rules of battery maintenance, in order to maintain the warranty given by Italjet. Correct use and use of battery will also result in longer life duration and performance.

3. Before the first use, charge the battery completely;

• Avoid to fully discharge the battery;• Use only the original charger;• In case of prolonged non-use of

the bicycle (for example the winter period) it is necessary to maintain the charge level around 40-50% checking the display and charging the battery for 5 minutes every two months.

This is to overcome the phenomenon of self-discharge and maintain a minimum of activity of the batteries;

• Store the battery in temperatures around 20° C (68° F). Higher and lowers temperatures will reduce the duration of the battery lifespan.

4. At the end of their life the batteries are subject to disposal and recycling regulations that vary by country and region. Always check and respect the rules.

5. Handling precautions:• Do not disassemble, crush, or

puncture a battery;• Do not short the external contacts

on a battery;• Do not dispose the battery to fire or
