Spray safelyPesticides can have a devastating effect on our bees. To help keep bees safe from pesticide use:

• consider whether you need to spray your garden with pesticides

• read the label and make sure pesticides you are using are bee-friendly

• never spray when plants are in flower or when bees are in your garden

• it is best to spray early in the morning or at sunset when bees are not outside working.

Bee-friendly plantsOne of the best ways to help bees is by planting bee-friendly plants. Some of the best plants to attract bees into your garden are lavender, rosemary, thyme, and borage.

Eat New Zealand honeyOur bees make delicious, high quality honey. By eating New Zealand honey you are supporting our beekeepers who work hard to care for our bees and their environment.

We have many types of honey that are unique to New Zealand, made from our native plants. These include delicious rātā, rewarewa, kāmahi, tāwari and pōhutukawa honey, as well as our famous mānuka honey. Give one a try!

Feed our beesBees need food and water to thrive.

Planting bee-friendly wildflowers and providing a saucer of pesticide-free water for bees to drink are simple but very effective ways you can help improve bee health.

Well-nourished bees are better at fending off disease and parasites.

Bee-friendly tip: Plant a mixture of bee-friendly plants. Include natives that flower at different times, so bees can feed all year round.
