2012 Matrix vs. 2012 Kia Forte EX Top Matrix Advantages Over Forte EX SOPHISTICATED CHASSIS Toyota is famous for its engineering skills. Matrix is a good example, offering mechanical and chassis features that put it ahead of Forte. Electric power steering Matrix uses an efficient electric power steering system that has lower maintenance needs than the hydraulic system in Forte. Available all-wheel drive Two-wheel or all-wheel drive: The choice is yours on Matrix S. Forte doesn’t offer an all-wheel-drive option. CARGO CONVENIENCES Small wagons are designed to be good at carrying cargo and other items of daily life. Matrix just happens to be better at it than Forte. Cargo-friendly flooring The hard surface of Matrix’s cargo area may stand up to wear and tear better than the carpeted surface of Forte. Cargo tie-downs Matrix has convenient tie-downs to lash cargo. Forte doesn’t, so cargo could be more prone to sliding about. Cargo-area cover Matrix and Forte both have cargo-area covers, but the folding cover in Matrix can be easier to handle and store than the rigid cover on Forte. Forte, from Korea’s Kia Motors, follows a familiar script: pack tons of features into a car with an MSRP at or lower than that of the competition. Then hope that shoppers don’t pay too much attention to engine refinement, handling dynamics and interior finishes. Toyota believes that while price lasts for a day, value lasts for years. That’s why Matrix doesn’t have to resort to slight-of-hand, because it’s always been as refined, durable and mannered as a Toyota should be. And that means shoppers can have confidence they’re buying a high-value, quality product from a company that has stood the test of time. REAR-SEAT COMFORT In Matrix, sitting in the rear seat doesn’t have to mean being cramped and uncomfortable. Matrix has the room and features to make it a pleasure. More room Rear-seat passengers in Matrix enjoy more head room and leg room than passengers in Forte. Rear door bins Matrix rear-seat passengers have convenient door bins for holding small items. Forte rear-seat passengers don’t have rear door bins for storage. TOYOTA VALUE Matrix shows typical Toyota value, so you can expect it to be economical to own and operate. Toyota Care New retail buyers of Matrix get the Toyota Care complimentary scheduled maintenance plan at no extra cost. Kia doesn’t offer a similar program. Electric power steering

Matrix uses an efficient electric power steering system. Compared with the hydraulic system in Forte, it doesn’t drain engine power continuously and it doesn’t have the hoses and fluids which need maintenance.

available all-wheel drive

Both Matrix and Forte come standard with a space-efficient front-wheel drive powertrain. But only Matrix offers a full-time all-wheel-drive (AWD) system, which automatically distributes power between the front and rear wheels according to available traction.Matrix Forte

Cargo-friendly flooring

For owners who haul cargo or pets, the hard surface of Matrix’s cargo area may stand up to wear and tear better than the carpeted surface of Forte. Plus, it’s easier to clean than carpet after a minor spill or leak.

Tie-downs

Small items can add up to big utility. Matrix has cargo tie-downs to help the driver lash cargo securely. Forte doesn’t have tie-downs, so cargo could be more prone to sliding about while you drive.

Cargo-area cover

A cargo cover makes it easier to keep prying eyes away from your personal property. Matrix has a folding cover that makes it easier to handle and store the cover when you’re not using it. The fixed cover in Forte can be a bit awkward.

rear door bins

Another comfort item for Matrix rear-seat passengers is convenient door bins for holding small items. Forte rear-seat passengers have to find some other place to put personal items because Forte doesn’t have rear door bins.

More room

Matrix’s rear seating area doesn’t just look spacious, the measurements show that it is. Rear-seat passengers in Matrix enjoy more head room and leg room than passengers in Forte.

2010 matrixThe 2010 Matrix blends the functionality of an SUV and the style, image and performance of a sports car with the affordability of a subcompact sedan – all in one fun-to-drive vehicle.

And it doesn’t stop there. It also delivers impressive fuel economy ratings* as well as a high level of standard safety features. All models include Vehicle Stability Control† with integrated Traction Control, Anti-lock disc brakes with Brake Assist†, front side-impact airbags†, front and rear side curtain airbags†, front active headrests† and a Tire Pressure Monitoring System†.

Add in a compact exterior and surprisingly roomy interior, and you’ve got the 2010 Matrix – a crossover utility vehicle that may have the body of a five-door hatch, but comes with the soul of a two-door sports car.

Surprising versatility The Matrix interior offers spacious seating for five as well as unexpected cargo-

carrying capability. With up to 94 cu.-ft. of interior volume and generous rear leg

room, passengers have plenty of room to spread out and relax. Hauling cargo is no

problem either, with nearly 20 cu.-ft. of cargo space† behind the second row seats,

with an easy clean, non-slip cargo floor and tie-down hooks to keep items secure. To

triple the amount of cargo room, the second row seatbacks fold down to provide over

60 cu.-ft. of cargo space†. And the fold-flat front passenger seat on S and XRS trims

creates even more room for those extra-long, bulky items.

outstanding fuel efficiency Matrix covers a lot of ground with each gallon of gas, with an EPA estimated 26/32/28

MPG rating (city/hwy/combined) for manual transmission models and 25/31/28 MPG for

the automatic transmission model powered by a 1.8-liter engine*.

Typical Toyota value Owners can count on solid all-around value from their Matrix. Its low cost to own and

operate earned the IntelliChoice “SmartChoice for Ownership Costs” award in its class1.

And all the while, owners can be assured they made good choice, as Matrix was named

as “Best Resale Value” in its class2.Intriguing list of equipment choices

Matrix offers a lengthy list of choices, beginning with three trims: Matrix, S and XRS.

The 1.8-liter 4-cylinder engine on Matrix trims provides 132 horsepower, while the

2.4-liter 4-cylinder engine on S and XRS trims delivers 158 horsepower. And the

choices continue. All-Wheel Drive comes with the S AWD. All-independent sport

suspension is part of XRS. Navigation systems are available on S and XRS and XM

Satellite Radio† with NavTraffic®† is available on all models. JBL® premium audio with

Bluetooth®† technology is available on S and XRS – the choices go on and on.

Comprehensive safety features Drivers and passengers will feel secure with the long list of standard safety features

found on Matrix. All models include Toyota’s Star Safety System™: Vehicle Stability

Control†, Traction Control with OFF switch, Anti-lock Brake System, Electronic Brake-

force Distribution and Brake Assist†. Also standard are driver and front passenger

dual-stage advanced airbags† with front passenger Occupant Classification System†,

driver and front passenger seat-mounted side airbags†, front and rear side curtain

airbags†, front active headrests† and a Tire Pressure Monitoring System†.
