WHY IS IT MORE IMPORTANT NOW THAN EVER BEFORE TO USE TECHNOLOGY
IN THE CLASSROOM?
Slide 5
SUCCESSFUL INTEGRATION (SEE HANDOUT) Depends on kinds of
technology available How much access one has to technology Who is
using the technology? Whiteboard or projector? (Online videos,
native software that came with board, Skype) Only one computer in
your room? (Assign Scribe to take notes; Start a class blog; Skype;
etc.) 3-5 computers? (Blogs, Presentations, Create Cartoons, Build
Websites & Movies) Computer Lab? (Live discussions, digital
note taking, e- books, etc.) Mobile Devices? (Voice recording app
for fluency checks, e- books, research, calculators,
Slide 6
SEAMLESS INTEGRATION What skills? Saving a file, naming a file,
finding a file, logging in and out of accounts. Have your students
mastered these basic skills? How many different tools will you
introduce? Is it too many? How will technology help your students
better understand content? Will it push them to a deeper
understanding that could not have been reached without technology?
What level of integration do you want in your classroom by the end
of the year? What steps must you take to achieve this goal? What is
a realistic goal based on time and resources?

TEACHER ORGANIZATION: FEEDBACK & ASSESSMENT Quick Checks:
Check to see if students have grasped information before moving on
Personalized Feedback for students Screencasts: Teacher can record
screen while viewing student work, pointing out areas of
strength/improvement needed. Note-taking sharing options

https://www.teachingchannel.org/videos/technology-in-the-classroom
When planning a lesson - even when you're planning on incorporating
technology - what is the first question you should ask yourself?
What does Sheryl argue is the power of technology? How will that
aid in students' retention of material and their engagement? What
is the impact of technology on this lesson?

DIGITAL CAMERA Create photo vocabulary cards Zoom in on an
object until you are able to tell what it is. (Writing prompt).
Take a students photo next to their names on their desks Take a
photo and send to students before school starts: Welcome! Create
digital copies of student work Send students in a small group
around school on scavenger hunt. Use a series of pictures to give
steps and visual instructions.
Slide 14
DIGITAL STORYTELLING Have students create a digital story to
tell about different elements in reading. Load pictures from a
story out of order, save project (.wp3), have students rearrange
the pictures to assess them for their understanding and sequencing.
Load pictures of a concept being studied, open project file (.wp3)
and label the pictures, add narration and give more information and
definitions. Collaborate on projects with Google Docs
