What kind of research would I be doing? e U.S. Army Research Institute of Environmental Medicine (USARIEM) is an internationally recognized center of excellence with the medical research mission of optimizing Warfighter health and performance during training and on the battlefield. USARIEM has research fellowship and internship opportunities available via the Oak Ridge Institute for Science and Education (ORISE) Program, which is a U.S. Department of Energy asset that recruits and prepares the next generation of our nation’s scientific workforce by enabling people in the STEM field to conduct research in a federal lab under the supervision and mentorship of a senior researcher. Opportunities are available at all experience levels, including summer internships for students (18 years of age and older), fellowships at the Bachelor’s, Master’s, and Postdoctoral levels, and fellowships for Established Scientists. ese research internship and fellowship opportunities could cover a range of topics within USARIEM’s research efforts, including performance physiology, musculoskeletal injury, environmental stressors (altitude/heat/cold/water immersion), biomedical modeling, nutrition, resilience, and cognitive performance.
