Innovating

Why is innovation important? Identify one innovation, developed within the last 5 years, that has had a positive impact on society. Think of a project you have undertaken this year where you have demonstrated innovation. What madeyour project innovative? What is the difference between creativity and innovation?“Great leaders don’t innovate the product; they innovate the factory.” What do you think this statement mightmean? How does Innovating relate to other learning habits?

The School Opal cardThe School Opal card gives eligible students free or discounted travel between home and school using metro, train, bus, ferry and light rail services you nominate in your application.

Who can apply? To be eligible for a School Opal card, students may need to live a minimum distance from their school:

Years K-2 (Infants)There is no minimum distance.

Years 3-6 (Primary)More than 1.6km straight line distance or at least 2.3km walking.

Years 7-12 (Secondary) More than 2.0km straight line distance or at least 2.9km walking.

Better togetherThe School Opal card is only for travel to and from school. So it’s a good idea to get a Child/Youth Opal card for travel after hours, on weekends or during school holidays.

Child/Youth Opal card benefits

• Concession fares across the Opal network • Half-price travel after eight paid journeys

each week*• $1 transfer discount for every transfer between

modes (metro/train, ferry, bus or light rail) as part of one journey within 60 minutes from the last tap off†

• Set auto top up and link it to your credit or debit card so there’s always enough value on the card to travel.

* Excluding Sydney Airport station access fee.

† The Opal Transfer Discount doesn’t apply when transferring between light rail and Sydney Ferries.

A parent or guardian must apply for students 15 years and under. Students 16 years and over can apply for themselves.

Secondary students aged 16 and over can travel with a Child/Youth Opal card when carrying a NSW/ACT Senior Secondary Student Concession Card, available from school offices.

If you live too close to be eligible for free travel, you may still qualify for a School Term Bus Pass, which offers travel on buses between home and school at a discounted rate for the whole school term.

Who needs to applyA new application is only required if the student has not had a School Opal card before.

If the student already has a School Opal card and is changing schools, campuses or home address, you will need to update their Opal card for the new school year before mid-December at apps.transport.nsw.gov.au/ssts

How to apply Applications for next year open at the start of Term 4 this year.

Step 1Once the new school has confirmed your child’s enrolment, complete the application at apps.transport.nsw.gov.au/ssts

Shoes: Staff continue to receive positive feedback from parents regarding the shoes they have purchased for their children from the uniform shop. If you aren’t a customer yet, then why not check them out on your next visit.

Junior School Green broad-brimmed hats: The poly/viscose slouch hats supplied at the uniform shop are made by Legend. The fabric used in manufacturing them has a UPF rating of 50+ and meets Australian standard AS/NZS 4399. These hats keep their nice bottle green colour(fade resistant) and great value. Please refrain from buying cheaper versions that do not keep their shape, fade easily and bring down the standard of the uniform at our SPCC schools.

MS and SS Caps: the black caps sold from the uniform shop are made from 100% recycled, earth friendly fabric and are referred to as “Eco caps”. They are comfy, adjustable and should be hand washed if they become dirty. $10 each.

Second-hand: We are appreciative of the families that are supporting the school (and helping other school families) by dropping in uniform items to be sold via the shop or making a donation to our welfare boxes. When purchasing or selling second-hand items from any of the 4 SPCC uniform shops you can be assured that you are purchasing good quality and correct uniform items as our processors follow the SPCC Second-Hand Policy and this ensures that standard of uniform at St Philip’s remains high. Consignment forms are available at the shop or by downloading from the SPCC webpage via the ‘uniform shop” tab. At the end of each term you will receive credit vouchers for any items of yours that have sold and these are like “cash” and can be used in the uniform shop or swapped with another parent for cash. If you no longer have

children enrolled a credit to your bank account will be applied. If you have unwanted uniform items (they don’t fit anymore etc) and would like to receive credit to spend in the shop, then please bring your items in to be processed.
