These Pug puppies are quintuplets, a blessed event that is in no way unusual within the world of dogs. While litter sizes vary, some generalities can be made. Bigger females have larger litters than smaller ones. Males bred after � ve years of age tend to sire fewer offspring than younger fathers. A healthy and trim mom is likely to have a larger litter than an overweight dog, and a � rst- time mom is likely to have fewer pups than she’ll have in subsequent

pregnancies. The largest litter of puppies on record totaled twenty-four, born to a Neapolitan Mastiff from England in 2004!
