U.S. Fish & Wildlife Service Rio Puerco Unit Hunt Regulations 2019-2020 Sevilleta National Wildlife Refuge Hunting the Rio Puerco Unit 590 acres located adjacent to the Rio Puerco in central New Mexico. Hunting shall be in accordance with all applicable Federal and State Regulations. Please refer to the New Mexico Department of Game and Fish Hunting Rules and Information and Migratory Game Bird Supplement. Species/Hunt season Hunting is allowed in the Rio Puerco Unit, Monday—Sunday from ½ hour before sunrise until sunset. Safety and Regulations Hunting is permitted in designated areas only. Neither hunters nor dogs may enter closed areas to retrieve birds. Vehicle entry and parking is restricted to areas posted. Fires of any type are prohibited on the refuge. Target practice is prohibited on the refuge. Possession or use of alcohol is prohibited on the refuge. Pits or permanent blinds are prohibited. Use of vegetation growing on the refuge for the construction of blinds is prohibited. Falcon are permitted in the Rio Puerco Unit only. Hunters may not possess more than 25 shotgun shells while in the field. Unleased hunting and/or retrieving dogs are allowed on the refuge when hunters are legally present in areas where hunting is permitted, only if dogs are under the immediate control of hunter at all times, and only to pursue species legally in season at that time. Unit A & Unit B Hunt Regulations 2019-2020Sevilleta National Wildlife Refuge

Hunting on Unit A and Unit B

Located near the Rio Grande, Unit A is 70 acres and Unit B is 50 acres.

Hunting shall be in accordance with all applicable Federal and State Regulations. Please refer to the New Mexico Department of Game and Fish Hunting Rules and Information and Migratory Bird Supplement.

Species/Hunt season

Hunting is allowed in Unit A and B on the refuge on Tuesday, Thursday and Sunday from ½ hour before sunrise until 1:00 pm.

Safety and Regulations

• Hunting is permitted in designated areas only.

• In Unit B, waterfowl hunting is allowed from designated blinds only.

• The Unit B accessible blind is for hunters who are disabled only.

• Neither hunters nor dogs may enter closed areas to retrieve birds.

• Vehicle entry and parking is restricted to areas posted.

• Fires of any type are prohibited on the refuge.

• Target practice is prohibited on the refuge.

• Possession or use of alcohol is prohibited on the refuge.

• Pits or permanent blinds are prohibited.

Hunting only allowed in Hunt Units A and B. Waterfowl hunting in Unit B is permitted from designated blinds only.

Directions to Hunt Units A and BFrom Visitor Center, follow entrance drive back toward I-25. Go east under the interstate. Turn right onto the Frontage Road. Follow paved road for 0.4 miles, then continue east on the dirt road. Continue 0.8 miles to the T-intersection. Turn right and continue 1.1 miles. Turn left to cross the railroad tracks.

If going to Unit A north parking area, turn right before the drain, and follow the west side of the drain until you see the “P” parking sign on your right. For accessible parking, continue to the accessible parking area on the right.

If going to Unit A south parking area, turn right after crossing the drain, and follow the east side of the drain 3.9 miles until the next dirt crossing over the drain. Turn right over the crossing, then turn right again and continue 1.3 miles north until you see the “P” parking sign on your left.

If going to Unit B, turn right after crossing the drain, and follow the east side of the drain 3.6 miles to the “Y” intersection and parking area on the left. For accessible parking, bear left at the “Y” and continue 0.6 miles to the accessible parking area.
