Miscellaneous Remarks Before we start Double Trouble Crochet ALong 2017 we would like to point out that we are two non-professionals who have created this pattern, totally free, for you with great pleasure. Whilst crocheting we searched for, added on and fitted patterns suitable for this Crochet ALong. We have worked on this project for quite a few months. We wanted to make sure the pattern looks its very best. There fore we crocheted, pulled out, recalculated the pattern and crocheted again. Perhaps you think we could have done or described things differently. That’s possible… However, please consider it’s not an easy job to create a pattern and describe it in a way everyone understands at first sight. We did our very best to create a beautiful and varied pattern! The name Double Trouble represents 2 crocheteers who are making crochet- troubles, as proven last year. To do more justice about the name we decided to use 2 techniques for this Crochet Along. We’re going to do traditional, as well as tunisian crochet.

We would like you to read this PDF-file with great attention. It could clarify a lot and could answer the questions you may have about Double Trouble Crochet ALong 2017 beforehand. Firstly: READ CAREFULLY, this is very important!!

Reading your pattern with great attention saves you from making half the mistakes.

Tip: Begin reading the instructions from start to finish and look at the accompanying photos. Then, step by step, read the instructions again whilst crocheting at the same time. If possible, let someone else read out the instructions to you. To make things even clearer, we’ve added diagrams and we’ve made a video of most stitches.

Counting your stitches is very important. It is not much fun, but please do so!

A handy tool is the “stitch marker”. You can count every 10 or 20 stitches or whichever number suits you best.

Tip: Count your stitches after each first row of single crochets, from the combination single crochets-double crochets-single crochets you crocheted.

If you join Double Trouble Crochet ALong 2017 we assume you know how to crochet the basic crochet stitches. These stitches are e.g. (US): chain (ch), slipstitch (sl st), single crochet (sc), half double crochet (hdc), double crochet (dc), treble crochet (tr), puff stitch and front post-stitches.

For a “refresh-your-memory moment” please check YouTube.

We have crocheted this Double Trouble Crochet ALong 2017 with one size needle, however, it may happen a certain stitch or row “pulls” (not everyone crochets in the same manner). It is perfectly fine to use a smaller or larger needle when you think this is necessary. This has not been indicated in the instructions. Only when we both noticed a certain stitch to pull, we changed needle and we will tell you so. Look carefully at the edges of your work and put it flat down, to prevent your work being wobbly. We recommend to weave in the end of your threads after every week. That way you don’t have to weave in a lot of threads at the end of the project. Doing it every week, will only cost a few minutes. We weave in our ends with a needle and “weave” the thread between the stitches, up and down. This way the thread will not “peep out”.

For almost every row, some parts of the pattern have to be repeated. This is indicated with a * (repeat from * until the end of the row). Sometimes you must read very well to make sure you know exactly which part you need to repeat from and to. We’ll be turning our work after every row. We’ll be crocheting on the right side ánd on the wrong side. Every now and then it’s better for the pattern to start on the right side. We’ll be mentioning that. To be on the safe side, every row number on the right side is colored in red.

If you have difficulties to see which is the right side, please mark row 1 with e.g. a stitch marker. You’ll facing the right side when you crochet row 1. After a few rows it will be clearer to see which is the right and wrong side.

Our stitch amount is a multiple of 24 + 7, e.g. 127, 199, 223.

We’re using a stitch amount of 223 stitches. When you’re using more or less stitches, because you want your blanket to be wider or smaller, please write that down, so you can always find your original number of stitches.

We’re using 5 colors, you are free to use as many colors as you wish. We’re not showing how and when to change colors. Everybody does it their own way. You are free to change colors whenever you want to do so.

We’re using a crochet needle size G, 4 mm and a Tunisian needle H, 5mm with a 80cm cord (minimum).

The finished size of our blankets is approx. 185 cm x 130 cm (72” x 51”).

Now let’s move on to our yarn, which can be the most pleasant or hardest thing ;).

Which yarn do you prefer, which one works for you?

We’re using, for our Double Trouble Crochet ALong 2017, Merino extra fine 120 van SMC (Schachenmayr) 120 meters per ball. This yarn is 100% merino wool. This brings us to the important question: How much yarn do you need? Jolanda uses the following colors: white (color 101) 12 skeins, mint (color 167) 8 skeins, tearose (color 136) 8 skeins, capri (color 168) 9 skeins and pink (color 137) 7 skeins. Naomi uses the following colors: white (color 101) 9 skeins, hellgrau meliert (color 190) 9 skeins, wiesengrün (color 170) 8 skeins, kardinal (color 140) 8 skeins en smaragd (color 177) 9 skeins. The total amount of meters is approx. 5200. The size of the blanket will depend on the yarn, the crochet needle you will use and, of course, the way you crochet.

Is Merino Extra Soft 120 not the yarn of your choice, and you want to use “our colors”? We’ve found an alternative. If acrylic yarn is your favorite, you can choose Bravo (SMC). These colors are a bit brighter than merino colors. Use colors 8224 (white), 8328 (atlantis), 8321 (smaragd), 8305 (candy) en 8289 (fresie) if you want the colors Jolanda uses. If you want to use Naomi’s colors, then take 8224 (white), 8295 (hellgrau meliert), 8349 (grasgrün), 8351 (kiwi) en 8350 (power pink). Packages will be available as from December and you can pre-order in November in Dutch stores. Of course you can choose your own colors, after all it will become your own blanket.

Double Trouble Crochet ALong 2017 will last 29 weeks. Every Friday we will publish a new week, starting January 6th 2017. Each week we’ll crochet a complete pattern, about 6-15 rows. So, this project is perfect as a “side-project”. Do you have any questions about the pattern? First read through the responses in the Facebookgroup “Haakplein” because you might find your answer there. If you don’t, you can always ask your question/problem in the group. Helping each other is also part of Crochet ALong. 😉 We hope you’ll have a great time with Double Trouble Crochet ALong 2017!
