What Is Being Done?The Michigan Department of Transportation (MDOT) will reconstruct US-12 (Michigan Avenue) in downtown Saline from N. Maple Road/Old Creek Drive to the bridge over the Saline River. Work includes widening US-12 to five lanes be-tween Monroe Street and Harris Street to add a center turn lane, storm and sanitary sewer and water main upgrades, sidewalk improvements, and traffic signal upgrades.In addition, downtown amenities will be updated as part of a streetscape enhancement grant in partnership with the City of Saline. These up-grades include tree removal and replacement, enhanced crosswalks at major intersections, the addition of mid-block islands, and enhanced lighting along the corridor.

When Will This Be Done?Work on this project begins in April and is ex-pected to be finished in November.

How Will Traffic Be Affected?During construction, only one lane of west-bound traffic will be open between Monroe Street and Maple Road, with eastbound traffic detoured using Henry Street. Henry Street will be resurfaced after construction on US-12 is complete.One lane will be open in each direction between the bridge and Monroe Street. There also will be short-term intersection closures with a detour posted. Temporary traffic signals will be in place on Henry Street at Ann Arbor Street, Harris Street and Old Creek Drive. Trucks will be encouraged to use M-50 or I-94, as oversized loads will be prohibited along US-12 during construction. The roadway is expected to reopen to two-way traffic with construction complete by November. Final restoration will take place in spring 2017.
