BREAKFASTSquare Cafe is one of PGH’s brunch hot spots in Regent Square. Expect a short wait but it’s worth your time! The menu has seasonal fresh items like pumpkin walnut pancakes & the mediterranean chickpea Burger, with most items locally sourced. Great vegan, vegetarian and gluten-free options too.

LUNCHOsteria 2350 is a casual Italian spot in the Strip District. Enjoy fresh seasonal salads, pastas, pizzas, and paninis - all in true Italian fashion. Wash it all down with a cold beer or a delicious glass of vino. New Downtown location, Osteria 100, is great too!

DINNERE² 52 is a BYOB gem located in Highland Park. This rustic Mediterranean restaurant features fresh and seasonal farm to table dishes by Chef Kate Romane. The gorgonzola mess with fresh Italian bread is my absolute favorite.

BARVerde49 is a new hip restaurant/bar in Garfield that features over 200 varieties of tequila/mezcal, a highly creative cocktail menu, and a nice variety of craft brews on draft. Scroll through their iPad-based tequila menu or ask one of the friendly mixologists for their recommendations on a flight to explore new tequila flavors.

BREAKFASTCoca Café58 is a place that deserves the crowd on weekends. These ladies pack their pancakes with constantly changing, local ingredients (try the pumpkin & side of thick-cut local bacon). Bluebird Kitchen57 is another great place to grab some exceptional pastries, coffee, or a breakfast sandwich on the go.

LUNCHKaya9 in the Strip District is a perfect place to grab lunch while giving an out-of-towner a tour of PGH’s historic market area; get a Kaya Burger with a side of sweet potato fries. They also have some of the best fish tacos in the city. When my mother visits, we head to Piccolo Forno55 for killer antipasti and wood-fired pizzas.

DINNERCure6 is a gem. Sit at the four-seat bar along the kitchen and talk to Justin while he and his team create dishes that wow. In Downtown, stop into Meat & Potatoes11 for amazing drinks & rich plates that hit the spot. Mussels with salmon roe and bacon is a perfect start.

BARThree places have opened in the last year and have set the bar for craft cocktails in PGH. Bar Marco3in the Strip has brilliant cocktails that continue to impress. Acacia86 inthe South Side takes craft cocktails to an entire new level, from the booze to the ice to the glass. Harvard & Highland90 in East Liberty should also be visited for its bold and creative libations.

WHERE DID YOU GROW UP?San Diego

WHEN DID YOU MOVE HERE AND WHY?Spring of 2008, my wife (a PGH native) and I, knew we wanted to move from San Diego and open a bar. We looked at other places (Vegas, Venice Beach) but decided Pittsburgh was a perfect fit. We opened up Round Corner Cantina in 2009 with our business partner Sarah Fitzgerald.

BESIDES OUR SPORTS, WHAT DO YOU THINK MAKES PGH GREAT? There are so many things. There is a terrific sense of place and people here. It’s a city that feels lived in. It’s rich with history and that is reflected in people’s attitude and perspective. It’s very authentic rather than engineered, you can’t find that many places. Another aspect I love is the ability to carve out a business/interest here and thrive. You look at cities similarly sized and that is not really an option, youneed to fit to them. But Pittsburgh really embraces people/businesses that bring something new and interesting to the market. For me, that’s ranged from opening restaurants/bars to working to bring an amazing electronic music/mixed media festival to PGH.

WHERE DID YOU GROW UP?Born and raised in a small, eastern Ohio town called Dover. Imagine Friday Night Lights combined with Pleasantville...

WHEN DID YOU MOVE HERE AND WHY?In October of 2006 I began school at the Art Institute of Pittsburgh for Advertising. I wanted to move somewhere larger and more exciting. Plus, I wanted to study in a program that combined business and the arts - two of my favorite things.

BESIDES OUR SPORTS, WHAT DO YOU THINK MAKES PGH GREAT? The people & their passion. If you have an idea or want something to happen - Pittsburgh is a great place to do that. Pittsburgh is filled with creative, innovative and all-around awesome individuals who want to learn more, help out and spread that inspiration. When I first created TEDxGrandviewAve, I was afraid that my idea for this event would get lost in the shuffle of larger events, or that maybe no one would understand my passion for learning new ideas in the TED atmosphere. Needless to say, I was completely wrong in the greatest way.
