Urban Road has brought original canvas art prints into the homes of art lovers everywhere. Founded in Sydney by Suzie Atkin in 2010, Urban Road creations are inspired by urban surrounds and nature’s beauty; a unique array of flowers and plants, animals, landscapes, water and abstract patterns in a mix of colour palettes – sometimes vibrant, sometimes subtle, always beautiful.

GEORGINA VINSUNFOR THE URBAN ROAD, DESIGNER COLLECTION

Georgina paints bright, colourful (sometimes romantic) abstracts, which employ soft veils of saturated colour and flurries of energetic brushwork.

The paintings are generally inspired by the awesomeness of nature with the sky being particularly key. Its vast size and ever-changing cloud formations usually prove to be an initial starting point, from which she then incorporates other ideas and themes.

“I never tire of watching the sky, observing the changes in light and tone or feeling my spirits lift as I leave buildings to be surprised by spectacular colour combinations - especially grey tones - and the smell of the cool fresh air.”

Her paintings are not intended to provide faithful, photo-realistic works but rather to reflect an emotional and thoughtful response to nature and to capture the essence of these transient sensations through the medium of paint. There is an intentional ambiguity to the work which leaves them open to interpretation and subjective reflection. She is interested in the concept of spontaneous response and expression and hence her use of colour is often instinctive and impulsive - revelling in the contrast of soft, buttery layers of colour with a harder, gestural element.

BRITT BASSFOR THE URBAN ROAD, DESIGNER COLLECTION

“My work is about process and intution. I am ever searching for ways to create subtleties and surprises through fine details and passageways. I feel the work takes on its own life, and the subconscious of the painting and my own intuition mutualistically guide the process. Through layering, adding and omitting I explore this artistic relationship until it culminates into a whole, finished piece.

I grew up in a suburb outside Atlanta where I fell in love with color and design at a young age. I always knew I wanted to create things. My mom has worked in the industry my whole life from running her own sewing workroom, to faux painting and interior design. I was so fortunate to have such a creative influence: all of that exposure to color and texture helped me fall in love with ‘making’ early on. I graduated from the Lamar Dodd School of Art at the University of Georgia in May of 2011 with a degree in Art Education with an emphasis on painting. I am currently living in Athens, painting and making installations full time. In addition to my studio here, I also have a showroom at the Goat Farm in Atlanta.”

ERIN FITZHUGH GREGORYFOR THE URBAN ROAD, DESIGNER COLLECTION

Erin Fitzhugh Gregory is a Mobile, AL native who now resides in Columbus, GA, USA with her husband Tim and their two daughters, McCall and Lizzie. Ever since graduating from Auburn University in 2000 with a BFA in painting, Erin has made her love of art a full-time career.

While selling her paintings in several galleries in Alabama and Georgia, she also spends much of her time doing commissioned work and has done several book-illustrating projects. In addition to creating art, Erin enjoys teaching oil painting workshops. Erin’s passion for painting is reflected in her rich and colorful landscapes, still-lifes, and figurative paintings. Her objective is to capture the contrasting nature of sunlight and shadow and to bring it to life with vivid color and brushwork.

Erin has received numerous awards for her art and has been featured in various magazines. Since 2001, she has had several solo shows and her paintings have been featured in multiple exhibitions around the Southeast USA.
