MISSION STATEMENT
The Akbar Pray Foundation For Change (APFC) is a not for profit grassroots organization, dedicated to redirecting the
lives of our urban at risk youth. It has been and remains our organizations mantra that " we are the solution to our own
problems." It is our core belief that there are those within our communities, if so engaged, who can help turn the tide of
crime, delinquency and recidivism which grips the lives of so many our inner city youth.Operating from the premise that to effectively attack or address any problem you must start at its root, we have begun aprogram in some of our citys schools and group homes, where we supply speakers, mentors, CDs and written material
from the organizations founder, which cuts to the heart of the problem experienced by many of these youths. Some timesworking with former gang members, inner city icons and others that have what is referred to as street cred, we have been
able to achieve remarkable results.
Expanding on our mission, we continuously recruit individuals from various work disciplines to aid in educating youngmen and woman with marketable skills. To those ends we have engaged people both inside and outside our community to come to our classes and or workshops to
share and discuss the ups and downs, ins and outs of a wide range of work disciplines and careers. Never favoring one
career path over any other, we have invited professors, urban fiction writers, successful members of the hip hop industry, general construction contractors and a Superior Court Judge to these open discussions and Socratic Circle seminars.
Again, it is our core belief that "we are the solution, to our own problems." In closing. We invite your participation in thisnoble undertaking.
IF NOT YOU, THEN WHO?
IF NOT NOW, THEN WHEN?

Know Your Rights:
What To Do If You're
Stopped By
Police, Immigration Agents or the FBIWe rely on the police to keep us safe and treat us all fairly, regardless of race, ethnicity, national origin orreligion. This card provides tips for interacting with police and understanding your rights.
WHAT TO DO IF YOU'RE STOPPED BY POLICE, IMMIGRATION
AGENTS OR THE FBI
IF YOU ARE CONTACTED BY THE FBI
If an FBI agent comes to your home or
workplace, you do not have to answer any
questions. Tell the agent you want to speakto a lawyer first.
If you are asked to meet with FBI agents
for an interview, you have the right to sayyou do not want to be interviewed. If you
agree to an interview, have a lawyer
present. You do not have to answer any
questions you feel uncomfortable
answering, and can say that you will only
answer questions on a specific topic.

IF YOU ARE QUESTIONED ABOUT
YOUR IMMIGRATION STATUS
You have the right to remain silent and donot have to discuss your immigration or
citizenship status with police, immigration
agents or any other officials. You do nothave to answer questions about where youwere born, whether you are a U.S. citizen, or
how you entered the country. (Separate rulesapply at international borders and airports, and for individuals on certain nonimmigrantvisas, including tourists and business
travelers.)
If you are not a U.S. citizen and animmigration agent requests your
immigration papers, you must show them ifyou have them with you. If you are over 18,carry your immigration documents with you
at all times. If you do not have immigration
papers, say you want to remain silent.
Do not lie about your citizenship status orprovide fake documents.
IF THE POLICE OR IMMIGRATION
AGENTS COME TO YOUR HOME
If the police or immigration agents come to
your home, you do not have to let them inunless they have certain kinds of warrants.Ask the officer to slip the warrant under the
door or hold it up to the window so you can
inspect it. A search warrant allows police toenter the address listed on the warrant, but
officers can only search the areas and for the
items listed. An arrest warrant allows policeto enter the home of the person listed on thewarrant if they believe the person is inside.
A warrant of removal/deportation (ICEwarrant) does not allow officers to enter ahome without consent.
Even if officers have a warrant, you have the
right to remain silent. If you choose to speak
to the officers, step outside and close thedoor.
You have the right to a lawyer, but thegovernment does not have to provide one for
you. If you do not have a lawyer, ask for alist of free or low-cost legal services.
You have the right to contact your consulate or have an officerinform the consulate of your arrest.
Tell the ICE agent you wish to remain silent. Do not discuss your
immigration status with anyone but your lawyer.Do not sign anything, such as a voluntary departure or stipulatedremoval, without talking to a lawyer. If you sign, you may be giving
up your opportunity to try to stay in the U.S.
Remember your immigration number ("A" number) and give it toyour family. It will help family members locate you.Keep a copy of your immigration documents with someone you trust.

The ACLU estimates that it costs
about 72,000 to house an elderly
inmate for a year, compared to
24,000 for a younger prisoner.
The federal Bureau of Justice
Statistics reported that the number
of men and women in state and
federal prisons age 55 and older
grew 76 percent between 1999 and
2008, the latest year available,
from 43,300 to 76,400. The
growth of the entire prison
population grew only 18 percent in
that period.

Children are important. They have a rolein the universe that is often overlooked
by those of us who are not parents.
While some of us are engaging in what
we think are loftier endeavors, children
are clamoring for attention, often in
negative ways. Perhaps rather than
acting like self-involved overgrown
children ourselves, ignoring their cries
for attention, we should embrace and
engage them in mutually enriching acts
of humanity.
For a long time, I was all consumed by
my own demons, battling depression, in
denial and worst of all, trying to keep all
of it under wraps by isolating myself
while I tried to figure out on my own
what to do, not even able to see the
resources that were all around me.
Fortunately, what was lost on me was not
lost on others, and I was able to find a
niche where I was not only accepted, but
valued and needed, ironically, in a house
full of children. It was there, through the
eyes of children that I came to see my
own worth.
Continuing on my lifes journey, Ive
come across others who have also found
that maneuvering twist turns of lifes
challenges require support and guidance.
Currently my most fulfilling role has
been in the role of mentor to twenty kids
in a big brother program, children who
other found too old, too damaged and too
complicated to take on. Like me, theyve
been trying to go it alone until now. I
may not be the one to throw a ball or take
a drive to the beach with, but having
been there, I can at least provide an ear to
listen and a helping hand.
I am grateful to these kids who, I find I
need as much as they need me. I have
become more understanding; I have
learned to see through the anger and
hatred than fuels depression and
sadness; to use compassion and caring
to open dialogs, which have become
mutually beneficial tools for refining
goals and purposes for all of
usindividually and collectively.
Children want what we all wantwhat
we all need, unconditional love and
attention, validation that our lives are
worth living.
I never thought that I would enjoy
spending so much time with these
children, dedicating my time and energy
to giving back by teaching them how
not to judge, how not to feel like they
are alone and most of all recognizing
that they are important because they
are. I am very happy with the outcome
for my children and for knowing that I
am playing a valuable role in their lives.

You have to be grateful to existence that it has
chosen you to be a passage for a few beautiful
children. But you are not to interfere in their growth,in their potential. You are not to impose yourself
upon them. They are not going to live in the same
times, they are not going to face the same problems. They willbe part of another world. Dont prepare them for this world, this
society, this time, because then you will be creating troubles for
them. They will find themselves unfit, unqualified.

Law #1
You don't need money. Money needs you.
The overwhelming majority of people believe they need
money. However nothing could be further from the truth.Money NEEDS YOU! Money without ideas is useless. It is
worth no more then the paper on which it is printed. The fact
that money runs to the man who takes an idea and develops it is
enough proof that money needs you and not the other way
around. That is the key: the specific development of an idea.
Rich and powerful people never worry about lack of money
because they possess a developed idea and are therefore seen asattractive by money. Money comes running to them. It is no
different than the method women use to make themselvesattractive to the men of their choice. A woman who wants to
attract the attention of a man may get her hair and nails done;
buy a new dress; get a facial; wear perfume, etc. Once a womanhas properly prepared herself, her man will come running to her
with no further effort on her part. The problem and the reason
people remain broke is they have never properly prepared
themselves (by developing and idea) to become attractive to
money. Most people have never taken an idea, grasped it, and
thoroughly developed it. Therefore money is not attracted to
them. Remember, money needs you! When you possess this
attitude towards money and properly prepare yourself for it'sarrival, you will have what you desire.
Law#2
If you don't know money, NO money
This is called money consciousness. The only reason a
healthy, free man would choose to spend the majority of his
life working for pittance of a salary at a company, is that he
does not know how he can do better. When I say know I
mean he has never been exposed to great riches in a way that
would not allow him to settle for anything less. The only way
to know money is to consistently see money. If you cannot
physically see money or the evidence of it in your present
environment, then you must learn to visualize money (see itwith your minds eye) and the evidence of it. However most
people only know what is immediately presented to them at themoment. They are never truly conscious of the feeling of being
exceedingly rich. As a result, they remain content to receive
what they have always received while unaware of what is
possible.
Stay tuned for part 2, which will consist of Laws 3,4,and 5.
Remember, the only thing that separates the rich from the poor
is knowledge.

"If we were given proper media coverage of the endless takeaway of our country's wealth by the super-rich, we would be infuriated."
*The more common members of
the one-percent (1,068,000
families) made over $1,000,000each ($1,068 billion total)
*The .1 percent (108,000
families) made about $4 million
each ($480 billion total)
*The .01 percent made about
$40 million each ($480 billion
total)
*The unimaginably rich Forbes
400 each took, on average,
almost $1,500,000,000 ($1.5
billion) since January, 2013.*That brings us to the Final 9
(Gates, Buffett, 2 Kochs, 4
Waltons, Zuckerberg). Each of
them has accumulated, on
average, over $13,000,000,000
($13 billion) since January 2013.
Getting Billions for Working Less: A
big reason to get angry: Our country's
wealth grew from $64 trillionto $80
trillion(a 25 percent increase!) in twoyears, reflecting the unprecedented surge
in America's productivity and wealth over
the past few years. But there was little if
any new innovation or job creationby
these big takers over the past two years. The simple fact that they were already
incomprehensibly rich allowed them to
sit back and collect more and more and
more. Mainstream Media:
Incompetent or In Bed with Business:
And thus a final reason to be incensed
about inequality: The fact that the regularmedia doesn't properly inform the public
about all this. That should be their job, toreport on issues that have a great impact
on our lives, instead of hushing up the
perversity of redistributed nationalwealth. But apparently it's good business
for the super-rich media owners to keep
their viewers harmlessly underestimating
the truth.

By Matt O'Brien
Source: Data from Richard Reeves andIsabel Sawhill
America is the land of opportunity, just
for some more than others.
That's because, in large part, inequality
starts in the crib. Rich parents can
afford to spend more time and moneyon their kids, and that gap has only
grown the past few decades. Indeed,
economists Greg Duncan and Richard
Murnanecalculate that, between 1972and 2006, high-income parents
increased their spending on"enrichment activities" for their
children by 151 percent in inflation-
adjusted terms, compared to 57 percent
for low-income parents.
But, of course, it's not just a matter of
dollars and cents. It's also a matter of
letters and words. Affluent parents talk
to their kids three more hours a weekon average than poor parents, which is
critical during a child's formative earlyyears. That's why, as Stanfordprofessor Sean Reardonexplains, "rich
students are increasingly entering
kindergarten much better prepared to
succeed in school than middle-class
students," and they're staying that way.
It's an educational arms race that's
leaving many kids far, far behind.
It's depressing, but not nearly so much
as this:
Even poor kids who do everything
right don't do much better than richkids who do everything wrong.Advantages and disadvantages, in
other words, tend to perpetuate
themselves. You can see that in the
above chart, based on a new
paper from Richard Reeves and IsabelSawhill, presented at the Federal
Reserve Bank of Boston's annual
conference, which is underway.
Specifically, rich high school dropouts
remain in the top about as much as poor
college grads stay stuck in the bottom
14 versus 16 percent, respectively. Notonly that, but these low-income strivers
are just as likely to end up in the bottom as
these wealthy ne'er-do-wells. Some
meritocracy.
What's going on? Well, it's all about glass
floors and glass ceilings. Rich kids who
can go work for the family business
and, in Canada at least, 70 percent of thesons of the top 1 percentdo just that or
inherit the family estate don't need a high
school diploma to get ahead. It's an
extreme example of what economists call"opportunity hoarding." That includes
everything from legacy college admissions
to unpaid internships that let affluent
parents rig the game a little more in their
children's favor.
But even if they didn't, low-income kids
would still have a hard time getting
ahead. That's, in part, because they're
targets for diploma mills that load them
up with debt, but not a lot of prospects. And even if they do get a good degree, at
least when it comes to black families,
they're more likely to still live in
impoverished neighborhoodsthat keep
them disconnected from opportunities.
It's not quite a heads-I-win, tails-you-lose
game where rich kids get better
educations, yet still get ahead even ifthey don'tbut it's close enough. And if
it keeps up, the American Dream will be
just that.

In my neighborhood you hear nothing but the sound of needles

You hear my principal saying stop the violence, s

then you think to your self time to make this flip,
time to bring this money in,
as you live in your life of sin like it's a brand new trend ......
as I sit back & think about my neighborhood
I think if we change the term neighborhood our youth would
think less of the hood & more about the neighbors in it ...
then they just might see no more that die,
hear no more that cry
& no more of hearing black mothers sigh....
