    UQ Science International Scholarships

    The Faculty of Science at The University of Queensland (UQ) offers a limited number of InternationalScholarship opportunities for outstanding international students intending to study in an undergraduate orpostgraduate coursework program in Science at UQ. This document sets out the terms and conditions whichapply to these Scholarships.     How to apply: 1. Lodge an official UQ undergraduate or postgraduate application form for international students

    (www.uq.edu.au/international/how-to-apply ) for entry into one of the eligible Science programs (listed inAppendix 1) to the UQ International Admissions Section or through your agent.

    2. Receive a UQ Student ID Number

    3. Complete and submit the Science International Scholarship online application form(http://www.science.uq.edu.au/international-scholarships ).

    Details required on the application form include: Name Surname UQ Student ID Mobile telephone number Contact email Program of study Year and Semester of commencement A personal statement briefly describing your reason for selecting a UQ Science program (limit 300

    words). Note: statements longer than 300 words will not be considered.

    Applications must be received by: 31st October of the prior year for a Semester 1 (late February early March) commencement 30th April of the same year for a Semester 2 (July) commencement

    Incomplete applications or applications which are found to be inaccurate, false or misleading will not beconsidered.

    Eligibility:To be eligible to be considered for a UQ Science International Scholarship, an applicant must:

    Be able to be classified as an international student in Australia (Australian permanent residents andAustralian citizens are not eligible, and should instead refer to UQs domestic scholarship schemes atwww.uq.edu.au/study/scholarships );

    Have a full unconditional offer from UQ (except in the case where student records from high schoolare yet to be finalised. In these cases, predicted results signed off by the school and a conditionaloffer from UQ may be considered by the selection committee.)

    For undergraduate programs, have completed senior high school and have obtained an entry scorethat equates to a Queensland Tertiary Education rank of 96 or higher. See Appendix 2 for indicativeinternational equivalencies table.

    For postgraduate programs, have completed an undergraduate degree and obtained a GPA (GradePoint Average) of 6 or higher on a scale of 7. See Appendix 2 for indicative international equivalenciestable.

    Selection Process:Following each closing date, applications will be considered by the following process:

    Applications will be assessed by a selection committee made up of the Faculty of Science AssociateDeans (Academic), the Manager Academic Administration, Science, and a representative from UQInternational.

    The selection committee will review applicants g rades and personal statement and providerecommendations to the Executive Dean, Faculty of Science, for approval.

    Recommendations for the award of scholarships will be based on academic merit and the personalstatement. UQ also reserves the right to prioritise specific study areas in the selection process.

    Scholarships will be recommended at one of two levels:o UQ Science International Excellence Scholarships valued at a total of AU$12,000; oro UQ Science International Merit Scholarships valued at a total of AU$5,000

    The Executive Deans decision is final and no correspondence will be entered into.

    Wherever possible, applicants will be notified within one month of the scholarship closing date of the result oftheir application.

    Obligations of scholarship recipients:Successful applicants must:

    Commence study in the Semester indicated in the offer letter. Diligently and to the best of their ability apply themselves to the successful completion of their

    program of study.

    Remain enrolled and in good standing in the approved program. Conform to University regulations (including disciplinary provisions). Fulfill all requirements associated with their student visas.

    Notification in writing to the Associate Dean (Academic), Faculty of Science, and the Director, UQInternational, is required if the student:

    wishes to defer, transfer, or withdraw from the approved program wishes to apply for an extension

    Payment: Payment of scholarships is conditional on scholarship recipients meeting the obligations outlined

    above, as applicable at the payment date. Payment will be made after the academic census date in each of the first two semesters of study

    (after March 31 for semester 1; August 31 for semester 2) according to the schedule below:

    Payments will be made into the recipients nominated Australian bank account.

    Communications / Publicity: Successful applicants will be asked to provide testimonials and agree for their image and a summary

    profile to be distributed via printed and electronic means to prospective students, media andeducation agents to acknowledge their success.

    In some cases, successful applicants may be asked to speak about their UQ experience to prospectivestudents upon return to their home countries.

    Health Insurance:Students are required to pay for their own medical insurance through the Overseas Student Health Cover(OSHC) scheme. Overseas Student Health Cover (OSHC) is a compulsory requirement of your student visa. TheUniversity has appointed Worldcare Assist as the preferred provider for OSHC.
